About the Role
We're looking for a Mobile App Developer who can take a feature from design through to a shipped release and take real pride in the quality of what they build. You'll write production Kotlin code as a core part of the job, work across the mobile stack relevant to the app you own, and make sound architectural calls on the screens and modules you're responsible for. You'll work closely with product, design, QA, and backend engineers to deliver a polished, reliable app experience.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and ship mobile features end to end, from technical approach through release to the Play Store and/or App Store.
- Write clean, maintainable Kotlin code using modern architecture patterns such as MVVM or Clean Architecture.
- Build interfaces using Jetpack Compose (Android) and, where relevant to the app, SwiftUI/UIKit (iOS) or React Native.
- Integrate RESTful APIs, third-party libraries, and internal frameworks into the app.
- Manage dependencies using Gradle and, where relevant, CocoaPods or Swift Package Manager.
- Write unit and UI tests to keep the codebase reliable as it grows.
- Diagnose and fix performance, memory, and stability issues using platform profiling tools (Android Studio Profiler, Xcode Instruments, or equivalent).
- Take part in code reviews and contribute to the team's engineering practices.
- Work with product, design, QA, and backend engineers to turn requirements into shipped features.
What You'll Bring
Required: 2–6 years of mobile app development experience, with genuine, hands-on Kotlin experience — real production Kotlin code you've written and shipped, not just exposure to the language. We care more about how well you understand the app you built than how long you've been building apps.
- 2–6 years of professional experience building and shipping mobile applications.
- Strong working knowledge of Kotlin, with solid understanding of the Android SDK and the app lifecycle.
- Hands-on experience with modern Android UI development (Jetpack Compose and/or XML-based views) in production apps.
- Comfortable working with MVVM, Clean Architecture, or similar modern design patterns — and able to explain the trade-offs behind decisions you've made, not just name the pattern.
- Experience writing unit and/or UI tests.
- Solid understanding of multithreading, memory management, and performance optimization, with the ability to use profiling tools to diagnose real issues.
- Experience integrating RESTful APIs and applying sound networking practices.
- Comfortable with Git and standard debugging and profiling tools.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) — sharing business logic across iOS and Android in a real, shipped app.
- Native iOS development experience (Swift, SwiftUI/UIKit).
- Experience with React Native.
- Experience building or contributing to a reusable SDK, internal framework, or shared component library.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for mobile (Fastlane, GitHub Actions, or similar).
- Experience with Kotlin Coroutines or Swift Concurrency (async/await).
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams alongside product, design, and QA.
- Prior experience in a service-based or client-driven organization with multiple stakeholders.
