The Consultant Gastroenterologist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing diseases of the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and biliary tract. The specialist provides comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care, performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders.
- Conduct outpatient consultations and inpatient rounds.
- Develop individualized treatment plans for acute and chronic digestive diseases.
- Manage conditions such as:
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
- Peptic Ulcer Disease
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
- Liver Diseases and Hepatitis
- Pancreatic Disorders
- Gallbladder and Biliary Diseases
- Gastrointestinal Bleeding
- Gastrointestinal Cancers
- Provide nutritional and lifestyle counseling related to digestive health.
Endoscopic Procedures
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal procedures, including:
- Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (UGI Endoscopy)
- Colonoscopy
- Sigmoidoscopy
- Endoscopic Biopsy Procedures
- Polypectomy
- Endoscopic Hemostasis
- Foreign Body Removal
- Interpret endoscopic findings and prepare procedure reports.
- Ensure patient safety before, during, and after procedures.
Inpatient & Emergency Care
- Manage hospitalized patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
- Attend gastroenterology emergencies, including gastrointestinal bleeding and acute liver conditions.
- Coordinate care with surgeons, intensivists, oncologists, radiologists, and other specialists when required.
Patient Education & Counseling
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive care.
- Counsel patients on dietary modifications and long-term disease management.
- Obtain informed consent for endoscopic and therapeutic procedures.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain accurate medical records and procedure documentation.
- Adhere to NABH standards, infection control protocols, and hospital policies.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and departmental meetings.
- Ensure ethical and evidence-based medical practice.
Academic & Administrative Responsibilities
- Participate in continuing medical education (CME) activities.
- Support training of junior doctors, nurses, and allied healthcare staff.
- Contribute to health awareness programs and community outreach initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MD/DNB in General Medicine.
- DM/DNB in Gastroenterology.
- Valid registration with the appropriate Medical Council.
Experience
- Minimum 1–5 years of post-specialization experience preferred.
- Freshly qualified DM/DNB Gastroenterologists may be considered based on hospital requirements.

Working Conditions
- Hospital-based environment involving OPD, IPD, Endoscopy Suite, ICU, and Emergency Department.
- Participation in on-call duties and emergency gastroenterology services as required.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹80,000.00 per hour
