Job Purpose
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Thermal Spray Coating Operator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing component surfaces, setting up, and operating specialized thermal spray equipment—with a primary focus on plasma spray processes—to apply high-quality engineering coatings according to precise engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation: Set up, calibrate, and operate thermal spray equipment, specifically focusing on Atmospheric Plasma Spray (APS) systems.
- Surface Preparation: Prepare substrate surfaces prior to coating using grit blasting, degreasing, chemical cleaning, and masking techniques to ensure optimal coating adhesion.
- Process Monitoring: Continuously monitor critical spraying parameters (such as gas flow, current, voltage, powder feed rate, and spray distance) during operation to maintain coating consistency and quality.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine and preventive maintenance on spray guns, powder feeders, grit blasting machines, and auxiliary equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical or process issues as they arise.
- Quality & Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality management guidelines, and safety protocols (including the proper use of PPE and handling of gases/powders).
Qualifications & Skills
- Educational Background:
- ITI in Fitter, Machinist, Turner, Welder, or Motor Mechanic.
- OR Diploma in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Production Engineering.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of surface preparation techniques (grit blasting parameters, surface roughness).
- Familiarity with interpreting engineering drawings, micrometers, and vernier calipers to check component dimensions.
- Basic knowledge of different coating powders (ceramics, alloys, cermets) is a plus.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 to 4 years of hands-on experience in thermal spraying operations.
- Strong preference will be given to candidates with direct, proven experience in plasma spray technology.
