Delivery Leader
You Are:
A highly accomplished and strategic Software Delivery Leader to lead the successful execution of a portfolio of software development, product engineering, digital transformation, and managed services engagements. This role is responsible for driving delivery excellence across multiple programs and projects through a team of Delivery Managers, Program Managers, Project Managers, Engineering Managers, and cross-functional leaders. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership, customer-facing communication, delivery governance, financial management, and organizational development capabilities. Beyond project execution, this role will focus on building high-performing delivery organizations, coaching delivery leaders, establishing operational discipline, and ensuring predictable outcomes across strategic customer accounts.
The Software Delivery Leader serves as the senior delivery executive responsible for customer confidence, delivery predictability, portfolio health, team effectiveness, and business growth.
The Opportunity:
Portfolio Delivery Leadership
- Own and govern a portfolio of software delivery programs across multiple customers, business units, and technology domains.
- Lead delivery through Delivery Managers, Program Managers, and Project Managers rather than direct project execution.
- Ensure consistent delivery excellence across multiple concurrent engagements with varying complexity, scale, and delivery models.
- Establish and drive delivery governance frameworks, operational reviews, performance metrics, and escalation mechanisms.
- Ensure delivery commitments are achieved with respect to scope, quality, schedule, budget, and customer expectations.
- Drive a culture of accountability, ownership, predictability, and execution excellence across all delivery teams.
Leadership, Coaching & Delivery Organization Development
- Coach, mentor, and develop Delivery Managers, Program Managers, Project Managers, and emerging delivery leaders.
- Build strong delivery leadership capabilities through regular reviews, guidance, feedback, and structured development plans.
- Conduct portfolio reviews focused on leadership effectiveness, delivery maturity, and execution quality.
- Create succession plans and leadership pipelines for future growth.
- Foster a high-performance culture centered around collaboration, accountability, customer success, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as the escalation and decision-making authority for critical delivery challenges.
Customer Engagement & Executive Communication
- Act as the senior delivery representative and trusted advisor for strategic customer accounts.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customer executives, business stakeholders, and technology leadership.
- Lead executive governance meetings, steering committee reviews, and business performance discussions.
- Ensure delivery status, risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans are communicated clearly, accurately, and proactively.
- Demonstrate exceptional articulation, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Drive customer confidence through transparency, responsiveness, and consistent delivery outcomes.
Program & Project Governance
- Establish rigorous governance mechanisms across programs and projects.
- Ensure disciplined execution of project reviews, status reporting, risk management, issue tracking, dependency management, and change control processes.
- Drive operational rigor through delivery dashboards, trackers, action logs, and performance metrics.
- Ensure timely follow-ups, closure of action items, and escalation management across all engagements.
- Conduct regular portfolio health assessments and corrective action reviews.
- Ensure adherence to Agile, Scrum, Hybrid, and Waterfall delivery methodologies as appropriate.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Own portfolio-level financial performance, delivery margins, utilization, forecasting, and profitability.
- Review project financials, burn rates, revenue recognition, and cost management across engagements.
- Support pre-sales, solutioning, estimations, commercial reviews, and contract negotiations.
- Ensure strong scope management and change request governance, particularly for fixed-price engagements.
- Identify opportunities for account growth, expansion, and increased customer value realization.
- Drive delivery efficiency and productivity improvements to improve commercial outcomes.
Operational Excellence & Delivery Discipline
- Establish a culture of operational discipline across all delivery teams.
- Ensure consistent usage of delivery trackers, project dashboards, action registers, and governance artifacts.
- Monitor execution cadence through structured reviews, follow-ups, and performance checkpoints.
- Drive compliance with organizational standards, quality frameworks, and delivery best practices.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, automation, quality, and delivery predictability.
- Ensure delivery metrics and KPIs are measured, reviewed, and acted upon consistently
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Architecture, Product Management, Quality Engineering, DevOps/Infrastructure, Security, and Business / Sales teams.
- Ensure alignment between technology strategy, delivery objectives, and customer expectations.
- Facilitate effective coordination across geographically distributed teams and multiple delivery centers.
- Remove organizational impediments and enable successful execution across functions.
What you need:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Master's degree or relevant management qualification preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in software engineering, technology delivery, or product development organizations.
- Minimum 8+ years in delivery leadership roles managing multiple programs and delivery leaders.
- Proven experience leading portfolios consisting of multiple concurrent projects and programs across customers and business units.
- Demonstrated success managing Delivery Managers, Program Managers, and Project Managers in a matrixed delivery environment.
- Strong experience in customer-facing leadership roles with executive stakeholder engagement.
- Experience managing software development, digital transformation, platform engineering, cloud, and enterprise product implementation programs.
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale fixed-price, managed services, and product engineering engagements.
- Experience managing geographically distributed and cross-functional delivery teams
