We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Development Engineer with a strong backend engineering foundation and working proficiency across the full stack. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture, along with solid, hands-on experience building modern UI layers. You'll join the DCT Engineering team, working on our Data Compliance/Test data solutions, with a core focus on our DCT Headless Masking product — a solution that enables customers to mask sensitive data at scale to meet compliance and security requirements. This is primarily a backend-focused role — the majority of the work involves designing and scaling backend services — but you'll be expected to comfortably pick up frontend tasks, own features end-to-end, and collaborate closely across the stack without needing constant hand-off to dedicated UI engineers. You will report to the Manager of Engineering.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot, powering our DCT Headless Masking product.
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices that power both internal and customer-facing masking features.
- Develop and maintain UI components and views (e.g., React/Angular) that consume these APIs, ensuring clean integration between frontend and backend layers.
- Own features end-to-end — from data model and API design through to the UI that surfaces them.
- Collaborate with product, QA, and DevOps to deliver complete solutions rather than handing off UI work to a separate team.
- Optimize backend systems for performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Write clean, efficient, well-documented code across both backend and frontend, following best practices.
- Implement security and data protection measures across the stack, including frontend concerns (e.g., XSS, CSRF, secure auth flows).
- Perform unit, integration, and performance testing for both backend and UI code.
- Troubleshoot and debug production issues across the stack.
- Participate in code reviews (backend and frontend) and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 9+ years of experience in backend development with a strong focus on Java.
Proficiency in Java 12+ and Spring Boot framework.
- Experience with RESTful API design and development.
- Solid understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
- Working proficiency in at least one modern frontend framework (React, Angular, or Vue) — able to build and maintain UI components independently, not just consume them.
- Comfortable with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals.
- Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
- Experience with message brokers like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Proficiency with version control systems like Git.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools like Jira or Trello.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines using cloud-native tools such as AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, or Google Cloud Dataflow.
- Experience integrating backend services with data lakes, data warehouses (e.g., Amazon Redshift, BigQuery), and real-time streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis).
- Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and behaviour-driven development (BDD).
- Prior experience with data masking, data security, or compliance-focused products.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Self-driven and detail-oriented.
