Job Summary:
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining the University's financial records, processing financial transactions, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, preparing financial reports, and supporting the efficient management of the University's accounts and financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:Financial Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions.
- Prepare and update cash books, ledgers, journals, and other accounting records.
- Record receipts, payments, and journal entries in the accounting system.
- Reconcile bank statements and cash balances regularly.
Budgeting & Financial Reporting
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial plans.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
- Generate financial reports for management review and decision-making.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process vendor payments, reimbursements, and other financial obligations.
- Verify invoices, bills, and supporting documents before payment.
- Maintain records of fees, grants, donations, and other sources of income.
- Follow up on outstanding receivables when required.
Payroll & Statutory Compliance
- Assist in salary processing and related accounting entries.
- Ensure compliance with applicable taxation and statutory regulations.
- Prepare and maintain records related to TDS, GST, PF, ESI, and other statutory deductions, as applicable.
- Coordinate with auditors and regulatory authorities during audits and inspections.
Audit & Documentation
- Maintain proper documentation and filing of financial records.
- Assist in internal and external audit processes.
- Provide financial data and supporting documents as required during audits.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of financial information.
University Financial Administration
- Maintain records of student fee collections and deposits.
- Support financial management of academic departments, projects, seminars, workshops, and university events.
- Assist in preparing utilization certificates and financial statements for grants and funded projects.
- Coordinate with various departments regarding financial matters.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Commerce (B.Com), Finance, Accounting, or related discipline.
- Master's Degree in Commerce (M.Com) or professional accounting qualification will be preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in accounting, finance, or related functions.
- Experience in educational institutions, universities, or higher education organizations will be preferred.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial management.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Office, and accounting software.
- Knowledge of taxation and statutory compliance requirements.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
