We're looking for a Backend Developer who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and building highly scalable, production-grade applications. We value engineers who have contributed to real-world products or substantial personal projects where they have tackled challenges such as scalability, caching, database optimization, event-driven systems, and performance tuning—not just CRUD applications.
Role Overview
As a Backend Developer, you'll design and build the core services that power millions of customer interactions across multiple communication channels. You'll work closely with Product, Frontend, DevOps, and QA teams to build secure, scalable, and highly available backend systems.
You'll be expected to think beyond feature development—designing systems that are reliable, maintainable, and capable of handling increasing traffic and complex business workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build reliable backend services powering messaging workflows across SMS, WhatsApp, Email, Voice, and RCS.
- Design systems with scalability, maintainability, and fault tolerance as core principles.
- Apply strong Data Structures and Algorithms knowledge to optimize application performance.
- Design efficient database schemas and write optimized SQL queries with proper indexing strategies.
- Implement caching mechanisms using Redis or similar technologies to improve system performance.
- Build and maintain event-driven architectures using messaging platforms such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Optimize backend services through performance profiling, memory optimization, query tuning, and application monitoring.
- Integrate third-party APIs while ensuring high availability, reliability, and fault tolerance.
- Collaborate with frontend developers, DevOps engineers, QA teams, and Product Managers to deliver end-to-end features.
- Write clean, reusable, well-tested, and maintainable code following software engineering best practices.
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design sessions.
- Debug production issues, perform root cause analysis, and continuously improve system reliability.
- Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and development best practices.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and building RESTful APIs.
- Excellent understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), and Design Patterns.
- Experience developing production-grade backend applications beyond basic CRUD implementations.
- Strong understanding of relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, including query optimization and SQL indexing.
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Redis.
- Hands-on experience implementing caching strategies using Redis or similar technologies.
- Good understanding of event-driven architecture and message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Knowledge of performance tuning, profiling, concurrency, multithreading, and application optimization.
- Understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and scalable backend architecture.
- Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using AI-powered development tools such as Cursor AI, Claude AI, GitHub Copilot, or similar for code generation, debugging, refactoring, documentation, and productivity enhancement.
Preferred Skills
- Experience designing high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems.
- Understanding of system design concepts including scalability, load balancing, rate limiting, circuit breakers, and fault tolerance.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or OpenTelemetry.
- Familiarity with authentication and authorization frameworks including OAuth2, JWT, and RBAC.
- Experience building SaaS, CPaaS, messaging, fintech, or high-traffic enterprise applications.

Qualifications

- Experience in SaaS, CPaaS, messaging platforms, fintech, or distributed systems is an added advantage.
