Roles & Responsibilities of a Pressure Die Casting Operator
1. Machine Operation
- Operate pressure die casting machines (hot chamber or cold chamber).
- Set up machine parameters like pressure, temperature, and cycle time.
- Start, stop, and monitor the casting cycle.
2. Die Preparation & Handling
- Install and align dies (molds) correctly in the machine.
- Preheat dies before production.
- Apply lubricants/release agents to ensure smooth casting and prevent sticking.
3. Metal Handling
- Pour or manage molten metal (such as aluminum, zinc, or magnesium).
- Ensure proper temperature of molten metal for quality casting.
4. Production Monitoring
- Observe the casting process and ensure smooth operation.
- Detect defects like porosity, cracks, or incomplete filling.
- Maintain consistent cycle time and production output.
5. Quality Inspection
- Inspect finished castings visually and with measuring tools.
- Remove excess material (flash trimming).
- Separate defective parts and report issues.
6. Maintenance Support
- Perform basic machine maintenance and cleaning.
- Report mechanical issues or die damage to maintenance team.
- Keep the machine and work area clean.
7. Safety Compliance
- Follow strict safety procedures due to high temperature and pressure.
- Use PPE (gloves, helmet, safety shoes, face shield).
- Handle molten metal safely to avoid accidents.
8. Documentation & Reporting
- Record production data (quantity, defects, downtime).
- Maintain shift logs and reports.
9. Team Coordination
- Work closely with supervisors, quality inspectors, and maintenance staff.
- Support smooth shift handover.
