We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Industrial Automation Engineer to design, program, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems in support of industrial automation processes. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in control system integration and be capable of independently handling automation projects from engineering and programming through FAT, site commissioning, and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, troubleshoot, and modify PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems.
- Develop and configure HMI (Human Machine Interface) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for monitoring and control.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, VFDs, servo drives, motors, valves, instrumentation, and other field devices with automation systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, control panel drawings, I/O lists, and control system documentation.
- Develop PLC logic, sequence control, interlocks, alarms, permissives, and process control logic as per project requirements.
- Carry out FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), SAT (Site Acceptance Testing), commissioning, and start-up activities.
- Perform onsite troubleshooting of PLC, HMI, SCADA, communication networks, drives, and field instruments.
- Establish and maintain PLC/HMI/SCADA program backups, project documentation, software versions, and revision control.
- Implement modifications, upgrades, and optimization of existing automation systems with minimum production downtime.
- Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, Profinet, Profibus, and other PLC communication networks.
- Provide technical support during breakdowns and assist in identifying root causes of automation and control system failures.
- Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and process engineers during project execution and commissioning.
- Prepare and update I/O lists, alarm lists, control philosophies, functional descriptions, test procedures, and commissioning reports.
- Travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service activities as required.
- Provide training and technical guidance to customers and maintenance personnel on automation systems.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Automation, or a related engineering discipline.
- 1.5–3 years of hands-on experience in Industrial Automation, PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Candidates with 3+ years of relevant experience and strong project-handling capabilities will also be considered for senior-level responsibilities.
- Practical experience with at least one major PLC platform such as Schneider, Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, or Delta.
- Hands-on experience in HMI and SCADA programming/configuration.
- Good understanding of VFDs, motors, control panels, sensors, actuators, instrumentation, and industrial communication networks.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot PLC programs, communication issues, I/O problems, interlocks, alarms, and sequence-related faults.
- Experience in FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup, and onsite troubleshooting is preferred.
- Ability to understand electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, I/O drawings, and control philosophies.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under site and production-related pressure.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites within India and, when required, outside India.
- Good communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with customers, project teams, and other engineering disciplines.
Activities Expected from Experienced Candidates
Experienced candidates are expected to independently handle the following activities:
- Understand project requirements and convert process requirements into PLC/HMI/SCADA control logic.
- Develop PLC programs from scratch and modify existing programs based on customer requirements.
- Develop HMI/SCADA screens, alarms, trends, recipes, reports, user access, and control functions.
- Configure PLC-to-PLC, PLC-to-SCADA, PLC-to-HMI, and PLC-to-drive/instrument communication.
- Conduct I/O checking, loop checking, sequence testing, and interlock verification.
- Lead or independently execute FAT, SAT, commissioning, and machine/process startup activities.
- Troubleshoot automation systems during breakdowns and identify the root cause of failures.
- Work directly with customers to understand issues, implement solutions, and provide technical support.
- Review electrical/control panel drawings and identify wiring, I/O, and control logic discrepancies.
- Perform software backups, program revisions, and documentation updates for completed projects.
- Optimize existing PLC/HMI/SCADA systems to improve machine performance, reliability, cycle time, and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate with panel builders, electrical teams, instrumentation teams, mechanical teams, and customers during project execution.
- Take ownership of assigned projects and ensure timely completion of engineering, testing, commissioning, and documentation activities.

Additional Candidate Expectations
The candidate should be hands-on, technically strong, willing to travel, and capable of independently handling site-related automation activities. Candidates who have primarily worked on documentation or theoretical programming without practical PLC troubleshooting and commissioning experience may not be suitable for this position.
