An Art and Craft Teacher designs and delivers creative curricula that nurture students' imaginations, fine motor skills, and self-expression. They instruct learners in diverse mediums—like drawing, painting, and clay modeling—while managing classroom materials, preparing student artwork for exhibitions, and assessing overall artistic progress.
Core Responsibilities
- Curriculum Development: Create, adapt, and implement engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans tailored to students' skill levels.
- Skill Instruction: Teach various crafting and artistic techniques, including color theory, sketching, papercraft, clay modeling, and mixed media.
- Student Assessment: Evaluate students' artistic progress, provide constructive feedback, and track development.
- Classroom & Supply Management: Ensure a safe, organized, and positive learning environment. Manage inventories of art supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Event Coordination: Prepare and organize student artwork for school displays, cultural programs, art exhibitions, and competitions.
- Foster Creativity: Encourage originality, imaginative thinking, and personal self-expression while promoting an appreciation for diverse cultural art traditions.
Essential Skills & Requirements
- Artistic Proficiency: Practical expertise in a wide range of visual arts and handicraft mediums.
- Patience & Empathy: Strong ability to encourage hesitant learners, understand individual emotional cues, and guide students at their own pace.
- Classroom Management: Effective communication and interpersonal abilities to supervise group activities, manage behavior, and collaborate with parents and faculty.
- Education & Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (BFA), a Diploma in Art/Craft, or a degree in Education with an art focus, often accompanied by a teaching certificate.
