An automotive quality inspector monitors manufacturing processes to ensure vehicles and components meet stringent safety, compliance, and performance standards. They verify raw materials, test parts at assembly stages, and perform final inspections prior to shipment, rejecting defective items and tracking down the root cause of issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspections: Conduct incoming (raw materials), in-process, and final "end of line" inspections to verify mechanical and electrical functions.
- Measurement: Use precision instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to check dimensional conformity against engineering blueprints.
- Defect Management: Identify non-conforming parts, record defects, and quarantine faulty materials to prevent them from progressing to the next assembly stage.
- Compliance: Ensure that all assemblies align with industry standards, such as IATF 16949, and meet international homologation or safety requirements.
- Documentation: Prepare Quality Control Process Charts (QCPC), maintain inspection logs, and support the processing of product warranties and field issues.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Production, or Automobile Engineering.
- Technical Proficiencies: Strong ability to read engineering drawings, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), and utilize 7 QC tools.
- Experience: 0 to 3+ years in an automotive component/vehicle manufacturing facility or CNC machine shop.
- Certifications: Certifications such as Six Sigma or ISO Lead Auditor are highly desirable.
- Analytical Abilities: Excellent root cause analysis skills, attention to detail, and working knowledge of software like MS Excel or SAP.
