Experience: 5+ years of relevant NICU experience, with leadership/in-charge experience preferred.
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and dedicated NICU In-Charge to manage the day-to-day operations of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, ensuring high-quality neonatal care, effective team management, patient safety, and adherence to clinical protocols and hospital SOPs.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the overall day-to-day functioning of the NICU and ensure smooth clinical operations.
- Ensure delivery of safe, compassionate, and quality nursing care to neonates.
- Plan and manage nursing staff deployment based on patient census and acuity.
- Prepare and monitor duty rosters, ensuring adequate staffing for all shifts.
- Monitor staff attendance, leave, absenteeism, and ensure appropriate manpower availability.
- Conduct daily briefings and communicate clinical and operational updates to the NICU team.
- Supervise and guide staff nurses in providing appropriate neonatal care.
- Ensure proper monitoring of vital signs, medication administration, feeding, documentation, and other nursing interventions.
- Ensure adherence to neonatal care protocols, infection prevention practices, and patient safety standards.
- Monitor compliance with hand hygiene, PPE usage, aseptic techniques, and infection control practices.
- Ensure proper maintenance and readiness of NICU equipment such as incubators, radiant warmers, ventilators, CPAP machines, monitors, infusion pumps, and emergency equipment.
- Ensure emergency equipment and resuscitation facilities are readily available and functional.
- Coordinate with neonatologists, pediatricians, consultants, and other clinical departments for effective patient care.
- Monitor admission, discharge, transfer, and referral processes within the NICU.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of nursing care and patient records.
- Monitor medication and consumable stock levels and coordinate timely replenishment.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and administration of medications as per hospital protocols.
- Monitor and report adverse events, medication errors, incidents, and other clinical concerns.
- Conduct regular rounds and identify areas requiring corrective action.
- Address patient and parent concerns professionally and escalate critical issues to the appropriate authority.
- Educate and counsel parents regarding NICU procedures, newborn care, infection prevention, and discharge instructions in coordination with the medical team.
- Ensure proper maintenance of patient confidentiality and medical records.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and accreditation-related activities.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, SOPs, statutory requirements, and quality standards.
- Identify training needs and provide guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training to NICU nursing staff.
- Conduct performance monitoring and provide feedback to team members.
- Maintain effective coordination with housekeeping, biomedical, pharmacy, laboratory, blood bank, and other support departments.
- Ensure cleanliness, hygiene, and a safe environment within the NICU.
- Prepare and submit required operational and clinical reports to the Nursing/Operations leadership.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, patient safety, and continuous improvement.

Experience
8+ years of relevant NICU experience, preferably with prior experience as a NICU In-Charge/Senior Staff Nurse.
