1. Position Summary
The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient functioning of all hospital operations during duty hours. This role oversees patient care delivery, monitors staff performance, to ensure patient satisfaction, manages emergencies, ensures adherence to protocols, and acts as the key administrative authority for the respective shift.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Patient Care & Clinical Oversight
- Ensure all admitted patients receive safe, timely, and appropriate care during her shift.
- Conduct routine shift rounds across all wards, ICU, OT, Emergency, and other critical areas.
- Monitor critical patients and ensure prompt escalation to consultants/ RMOs when required.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation by nursing and clinical teams.
- Patient safety and satisfaction should be top priority.
B. Staff Supervision & Coordination
- Supervising and monitoring the work of other staff on duty. i.e. Nurses, RMOs, housekeeping, security, and support staff.
- Ensure staffs are present, punctual, and adhering to duty roasters.
- Manage staff deployment in case of absenteeism or sudden workload surge.
- Provide guidance and support to staff during clinical or administrative issues.
C. Emergency & Incident Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for all emergencies during duty hours.
- Coordinate with RMOs and consultants for critical cases or unexpected clinical situations.
- Ensure timely reporting and documentation of incidents, near-miss events, sentinel events, and complaints.
- Manage medico-legal cases as per protocol.
D. Administrative Responsibilities
- Ensure hospital policies, SOPs, and safety protocols are strictly followed during the shift.
- Verify that all wards maintain cleanliness, infection control standards, equipment readiness, and adequate stock levels.
- Oversee patient transfers, admissions, discharges, and bed management during the shift.
- Ensure proper handover is taken at the beginning of the shift and given at the end of the shift to the morning Supervisor/Nursing Incharge/Matron.
- Check for Surgery preparedness, file completion, nursing documentation to be checked.
- Update on Patient experience, demand or complaints (if any)
- If any process needs to changed or modified for ensuring patient experience.
E. Communication & Reporting
- Provide detailed shift reports covering patient status, events, complaints, new admissions, discharges, staffing issues, and critical observations.
- Communicate any urgent issues to the Nursing Matron / Management immediately.
- Ensure documentation of all key activities and handover notes.
- Ensure there is fortnightly reporting to management.
3. Qualifications & Experience
- Undergraduate/ Graduate/ Post graduate diploma/Masters.
- Minimum 3–5 years with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Sound knowledge of hospital operations, emergency management, and nursing protocols.
