Assembly Quality Check — Panel Manufacturing
Position title: In-Process Quality
Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka
Department: Quality Assurance
Reports to: Quality Supervisor / Quality Manager
Role summary
The Assembly Quality Checker is responsible for monitoring and verifying the quality of panels during the assembly process. The role ensures that all assembly operations—such as components mounting, wiring, busbar installation—meet design drawings, specifications, process instructions, and safety standards. The checker identifies defects early, prevents non-conforming panels from moving to the next stage, and supports assembly teams and quality engineering to improve first- pass quality and reduce rework.
Key responsibilities
1. In-process quality checks
- Perform scheduled and ad-hoc quality inspections on electrical/control panels during assembly (pre-assembly, mid-assembly, and final assembly stages).
- Verify correct placement, orientation, and mounting of components (relays, MCCB/ACB,MCBs, busbars, terminals, wiring, control devices, indicating instruments, etc.) as perassembly drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
- Check wiring continuity, termination correctness, wire numbers, color coding, routing, bundling, and clip/spacer placement.
- Inspect busbar fabrication, bending, insulation, spacing, and bolting torque as per standards.
- Verify grounding/earthing connections, panel grounding continuity, and safety clearances.
- Ensure proper labelling, nameplate installation, and marking as per customer and standards requirements.
2. Measurements and testing support
- Perform dimensional checks and visual inspections using appropriate tools (calipers, tape, torque wrench, etc., as permitted).
- Confirm that test results are within acceptable limits and properly recorded.
3. Non-conformance handling
- Identify, mark, and segregate defective assemblies or components.
- Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) or assembly defect reports with clear descriptions and evidence.
- Notify assembly supervisors, production, and quality engineering immediately for corrective actions.
- Track rework and re-inspect repaired panels to ensure defect closure.
4. Documentation and system compliance
- Record inspection results in quality check sheets, in designated systems.
- Ensure inspection records are complete, accurate, and traceable (batch/panel number, date, inspector).
- Follow ISO 9001 and company quality procedures, SOPs, control plans, and inspection instructions.
- Maintain calibration status of inspection tools and escalate any issues.
5. Continuous improvement and collaboration
- Provide feedback to assembly teams on recurring defects and process deviations.
- Participate in root-cause analysis, defect reduction initiatives, and quality improvement meetings.
- Support internal audits, customer inspections, and supplier quality issues related to assembly components.
- Suggest improvements to assembly methods, wiring practices, and inspection checklists.
Education
Diploma in Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical Engineering or related technical field preferred.
Experience
1–3 years of experience in in-process/assembly quality checking, panel assembly, or
electrical wiring in panel manufacturing.
Experience with LV/MV power panels, control panels, automation panels, or similar is
advantageous.
Other skills
Good attention to detail and strong observational skills.
Clear communication to interact with assembly operators, supervisors, and quality engineers.
Discipline, reliability, and ability to work under production pressure.
Safety mindset: adherence to EHS standards, PPE usage, and safe working practices.
Performance indicators
Assembly defect detection rate and prevention of defective panels moving to next stage.
Reduction in rework and repeat defects over time.
Accuracy and timeliness of inspection records and NCRs.
First-pass quality improvement of assembled panels.
Adherence to inspection schedules and tool calibration requirements.
