Job Summary
The OT Technician is responsible for assisting the surgical team in the smooth and efficient functioning of the Operation Theatre. The role includes preparing the OT, surgical instruments, equipment, and consumables, maintaining aseptic conditions, and providing timely assistance to doctors and nurses during surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the Operation Theatre before scheduled surgical procedures.
- Ensure the availability and readiness of surgical instruments, equipment, consumables, and emergency items.
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and OT nurses during surgical procedures.
- Prepare and arrange surgical instruments and assist with instrument handling during procedures.
- Ensure proper sterilization and disinfection of surgical instruments and OT equipment.
- Maintain strict aseptic and infection control practices inside the OT.
- Check the functionality and availability of OT equipment before procedures.
- Assist in patient positioning and transfer as per the requirements of the surgical procedure.
- Handle and maintain surgical instruments and equipment appropriately.
- Coordinate with CSSD for sterilized instruments and surgical sets.
- Ensure proper counting of instruments, needles, swabs, and other surgical items before and after procedures.
- Assist in maintaining OT records, checklists, and procedure-related documentation.
- Ensure timely availability of blood, implants, consumables, and other required materials, as applicable.
- Assist in cleaning, disinfection, and preparation of the OT after every procedure.
- Ensure proper segregation and disposal of biomedical waste according to hospital protocols.
- Monitor stock levels of OT consumables and inform the concerned person regarding shortages.
- Assist in maintaining emergency preparedness and ensure emergency equipment is readily available.
- Follow hospital policies, infection control protocols, patient safety standards, and OT procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Coordinate effectively with doctors, nurses, anesthesia team, CSSD, housekeeping, and other departments.
- Participate in OT audits, quality initiatives, safety drills, and training programs.

Preferred Experience
- 2–3 years of experience as an OT Technician in a hospital setting.
- Experience in Maternity, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, or Women & Child Care hospitals will be an added advantage.
- Experience in handling major and minor surgical procedures is preferred.
