For a Solar Technical In-Charge – Total Projects, the role should cover end-to-end technical responsibility for all solar projects, including design, procurement support, installation, commissioning, quality, documentation, and after-sales service.
Solar Technical In-Charge – Responsibilities
- Overall technical supervision and coordination of all solar projects handled by the company.
- Review and approve project technical specifications, drawings, SLDs, BOQs, layouts, and designs.
- Ensure project execution as per MNRE, DISCOM, KREDL/OREDA/other department specifications, applicable IS standards, and tender requirements.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Site Engineers, Electrical Engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and clients.
- Provide technical guidance for Solar PV systems, Solar Water Pumping Systems, rooftop/off-grid systems, solar street lights, and related electrical works.
- Monitor installation quality of PV modules, structures, inverters/PCUs, pumps, controllers, cables, earthing, lightning protection, batteries, and other balance-of-system components.
- Review and resolve technical issues arising during installation and commissioning.
- Conduct/coordinate pre-dispatch inspection (PDI), site inspections, testing, commissioning, and final acceptance.
- Ensure proper testing of electrical systems, including insulation resistance, continuity, earthing resistance, polarity, voltage/current, and functional performance.
- Monitor project progress against approved technical schedules and identify delays or technical bottlenecks.
- Coordinate with procurement and stores teams to ensure that materials supplied are technically compliant and as per approved specifications.
- Verify material datasheets, test certificates, warranties, OEM certificates, and compliance documents.
- Ensure proper serial-number tracking, commissioning records, site photographs, test reports, and project handover documents.
- Support preparation and submission of technical documents to government departments, DISCOMs, consultants, and clients.
- Handle technical clarifications during tendering, pre-bid, work order execution, and project closure.
- Support preparation of technical responses for departmental observations, PDI waivers, inspections, deviations, and compliance requirements.
- Monitor warranty, CMC/AMC, breakdown, and service-related technical issues.
- Establish preventive maintenance procedures and ensure timely closure of technical complaints.
- Conduct technical training for site teams and subcontractors.
- Maintain and update technical SOPs, checklists, inspection formats, and quality-control procedures.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety, site safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
- Prepare periodic technical MIS and project status reports for management.
- Take responsibility for technical performance and successful completion of projects within the approved specifications, quality standards, cost, and timelines.
Recommended Qualifications
Essential:
- B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related field.
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in solar EPC/project execution, preferably with experience in multiple projects and government/PSU projects.
- Strong knowledge of Solar PV systems, electrical systems, inverters, pumps, controllers, earthing, protection systems, and commissioning procedures.
- Experience in handling solar water pumping systems and/or rooftop/off-grid solar projects is preferable.
- Good knowledge of MNRE guidelines, applicable BIS/IS standards, ALMM/DCR requirements, and government tender specifications.
- Ability to read and review SLD, electrical drawings, layouts, BOQ and technical specifications.
- Good coordination and team-management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD; knowledge of project-management software is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across different locations.
Preferred Experience
For a company handling PM-KUSUM, KREDL, OREDA, MNRE, rooftop, off-grid and solar EPC projects, I would recommend specifying minimum 7 years of solar project experience, with demonstrated experience in handling multiple projects simultaneously and leading site/technical teams.
