Position Civil Engineer (3-Waters / Hydraulics / Civil 3D / GIS)
Location Work From Home — Remote (NewZealand business hours)
Working week Full-time, Monday to Saturday
Time zone overlap Approx. 04:30 – 13:30 IST (NZST UTC+12 core hours)
Engagement Long-term contract / employment, 3-month probation
Key Responsibilities
Hydrology & Hydraulic Modelling
- Develop, calibrate and validate stormwater hydrological and hydraulic models in HEC-HMS and
HEC-RAS (1D / 2D) — design flows, detention sizing, flood mapping, OLFP analysis, culvert
hydraulics.
- Build sewer (wastewater) network models in EPA SWMM and SewerGEMS — dry/wet weather flow,
capacity, optimisation, pump station hydraulics.
- Build water distribution models in WaterGEMS (or equivalent Bentley platform) — pressure zone, fire
flow, flushing, EPS, demand modelling.
- Critically review third-party modelling outputs and respond to Council RFIs.
3-Waters & Civil Design
- Design stormwater, wastewater and water supply reticulation to Auckland Council, Watercare and
Auckland Transport standards.
- Earthworks design — cut/fill, batters, retaining interface, sediment control, sizing of detention
systems.
- Driveway, vehicle crossing and ROW / JOAL design per ATCOP, AS/NZS 2890.1 and AUP E27 /PC79.
Civil 3D Drawing Production
- Produce RC, BC and EPA drawing sets in AutoCAD Civil 3D — surfaces (feature lines for lot pads,
alignments + corridors for driveways), pipe networks, plan / long-section / cross-section sheets via Plan
Production.
- Maintain HAL drafting standards — title block, layers, line types, datum (AVD-46 / NZTM2000),
revision control, drawing index.
- Produce Issued-for-Construction (IFC) and as-built drawings to Healthy Waters, Watercare and AT
standards.
GIS & Spatial Analysis
- Use QGIS (or ArcGIS) for catchment delineation, DEM / LiDAR processing, parcel and overlay
analysis, locality plans.
- Prepare sub-catchment input datasets for HEC-HMS and EPA SWMM from publicly available DEMs
and Council datasets.
- Produce illustrative GIS outputs for planning reports and design statements.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with planners, surveyors, architects and geotechnical consultants.
- Daily catch-ups with the Director (NZ time-zone) — clear written reporting and progress updates.
- Manage own workload across multiple live projects to weekly milestones.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Civil, Environmental or Water Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years' relevant experience covering modelling, design and drafting (consulting
environment preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to lead a hydraulic modelling task from set-up through calibration to reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to produce engineering drawing sets in Civil 3D suitable for consent submission.
- Experience working remotely with discipline and minimal day-to-day supervision.
