Alpha Charitable Trust is developing a hospice to complement its existing community palliative care link centers.
The hospice is set to begin operations in August 2026 with an opening event and academic conference scheduled for October 2026.
We are looking for a Consultant Physician in Palliative and Hospice Care (Tier 3) to oversee the clinical provisions of the hospice. The candidates must have meaningful experience in hospital-based palliative care, ICU, and end-of-life care. Experience of emergency medicine would be an advantage. Candidates should have an MD in palliative care and a proven track record of intensivist experience. Candidates should understand the primacy of compassionate care in this field of work. The Consultant will also act as the Responsible Medical Officer for the hospice and undertake and lead all clinical aspects of care, licensing and certification necessary for the full and legal functioning of the hospice. The Consultant will provide clinical supervision for a Tier 2 Resident Medical Officer, and two Tier 1 doctors, all of whom will work across the various functions of the hospice.
This is a full-time position, working mainly on-site at Edamuttam, 6 days per week.
The Consultant will be professionally accountable to Alpha Palliative Care’s Medical Director, Dr Jose Babu, and report to the Hospice Clinical Director, Dr Neil Deuchar, a UK trained doctor and former NHS Medical Director. The Consultant will work alongside a Clinical Leadership Team (CLT) led by the Clinical Director and consisting of a Lead Doctor, Lead Nurse, Lead Physiotherapist, Lead Dialysis Technician, and Lead Social Worker. Other key relationships will be with the Chairman of Alpha Charitable Trust, Mr K.M. Noordeen, a U.K. backgrounded Nurse Director/Advisor, and fellow consultant/specialists in neurology, physiatry and nephrology.
The post-holder must be able to speak Malayali and English fluently. Hindi would be an advantage.
