Configure authentication and access via SAML SSO, LDAP/Active Directory integration, and enterprise user/team provisioning.
-
Migrate repositories and history from SVN, Bitbucket, GitLab, or legacy Git servers into GitHub Enterprise with minimal downtime.
-
Define and enforce repository governance: branch protection rules, CODEOWNERS, merge policies, and audit logging.
-
Enable and configure GitHub Advanced Security capabilities (secret scanning, code scanning, dependency review) for the on-prem instance.
-
Integrate GHES with enterprise tooling such as Jira, Jenkins, Artifactory/Nexus, LDAP, and SIEM platforms.
-
Monitor platform health and capacity, perform patching, and troubleshoot performance, connectivity, and licensing issues.
-
Prepare SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge-transfer documentation; provide L2/L3 support to application and DevOps teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
-
4–7 years of overall experience in DevOps/source-control platform administration, with demonstrable on-prem GitHub Enterprise exposure.
Essential skills:
- Hands-on experience administering GitHub Enterprise Server (self-hosted/on-prem), including installation and upgrade cycles.
-
Strong Linux administration skills (RHEL/Ubuntu) and core networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancers, TLS/certificates).
-
Experience configuring LDAP/Active Directory and SAML-based SSO integrations.
-
Working knowledge of GitHub Advanced Security, Dependabot, and secret scanning configurations.
-
Scripting proficiency in Bash and/or Python for automation of routine administration tasks.
-
Solid understanding of Git internals, branching strategies (GitFlow/trunk-based), and repository management at scale.
-
Familiarity with backup/DR practices, clustering, and virtualization or private-cloud hosting (VMware/on-prem Kubernetes).
Desired skills:
- GitHub certification (e.g., GitHub Certified Administrator) or equivalent vendor certification.
-
Prior experience migrating organizations from GitLab, Bitbucket, or SVN to GitHub Enterprise.
-
Exposure to containerized appliance management (Docker) for GHES cluster nodes.
