Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Deputy Manager – In-Process Quality (Welding) to lead and manage quality assurance activities for MIG and TIG welding operations in an automotive sheet metal manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in welding quality, IATF 16949, Core Tools, and team management, with a focus on achieving zero-defect manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead in-process quality activities for MIG, TIG welding, and assembly operations.
- Ensure compliance with control plans, welding standards, WPS, and inspection procedures.
- Monitor welding parameters such as current, voltage, wire feed rate, gas flow, and travel speed.
- Drive reduction of welding defects including porosity, undercut, burn-through, lack of fusion, spatter, and distortion through root cause analysis.
- Conduct first-off, patrol, and final inspections to ensure product quality.
- Lead problem-solving activities using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone Analysis, and implement effective CAPA.
- Manage and mentor quality engineers and inspectors while providing training on welding quality standards.
- Coordinate with customers during audits, trials, and quality issue resolution.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.
- Maintain quality records and support internal, customer, and certification audits.
- Ensure effective use and calibration of measuring instruments including CMM, weld gauges, height gauges, and profile projectors.
- Coordinate weld validation through visual inspection and NDT methods such as Dye Penetrant Testing (DP) and macro etching.
- Monitor quality KPIs including Internal PPM, Customer PPM, rejection, rework, COPQ, and corrective action closure.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of MIG & TIG welding quality.
- Good understanding of Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and welding parameters.
- Hands-on experience with GD&T and welding symbols.
- Expertise in APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, and CAPA.
- Knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Experience with dimensional inspection and measuring instruments.
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Eligibility
- BE/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10–15 years of experience in automotive sheet metal welding quality.
- Experience in managing in-process quality teams.
- Exposure to customer audits and automotive quality requirements.
