Lead the Development of a New Cancer Center, in Kabul, Afghanistan.
We are seeking an experienced Chief Medical Physicist to join our modern private tertiary-care hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan.
This is a unique leadership opportunity for an accomplished Medical Physicist who is passionate about building high-quality radiotherapy services. The successful candidate will lead the commissioning, quality assurance, and clinical physics program for a newly established Radiation Oncology Department equipped with a state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator (LINAC).
Working alongside our Radiation Oncologist and multidisciplinary team, you will establish safe clinical workflows, mentor local professionals, and help deliver international standards of cancer care to patients across Afghanistan.
Key Responsibilities
As Chief Medical Physicist, you will:
- Lead the commissioning and acceptance of radiotherapy equipment in collaboration with the equipment manufacturer.
- Establish and oversee the department's Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) programs.
- Perform machine calibration, dosimetry, and radiation beam verification.
- Develop and implement treatment planning and dosimetric verification procedures.
- Review and approve treatment plans to ensure accurate and safe dose delivery.
- Perform routine equipment performance testing and maintain detailed QA documentation.
- Ensure compliance with international radiation safety standards and national regulatory requirements.
- Serve as the Radiation Safety Lead for the department.
- Develop departmental policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency response protocols.
- Train and mentor local Medical Physicists, Radiation Therapists, and other technical staff.
- Work closely with Radiation Oncologists to optimize treatment planning and clinical workflows.
- Coordinate with biomedical engineers and equipment vendors regarding preventive maintenance and technical support.
- Participate in incident investigations, risk management, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Master's degree or higher in Medical Physics or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- Professional certification or registration as a Medical Physicist where applicable.
- Minimum five (5) years of post-qualification clinical experience in a recognized radiotherapy center.
- Experience working with modern Linear Accelerators and Treatment Planning Systems.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Preferred Experience
Candidates with experience in the following areas will be given preference:
- Commissioning new LINAC installations
- IMRT
- VMAT
- IGRT
- SBRT/SABR
- CT Simulation
- Beam data acquisition
- Treatment Planning System commissioning and validation
- Independent dosimetric verification
- Radiation protection programs
- Department setup and service development
- International accreditation or quality management initiatives
Previous experience establishing or expanding a radiotherapy department will be considered a significant advantage.
