Job Purpose:
The Head of Modular Furniture oversees the end-to-end business operations, factory production, strategic growth, design integration, and site delivery of the modular furniture business unit (Modular Tables, Storage, workstations, and custom panel-based joinery). This role bridges design, engineering, factory manufacturing, vendor procurement, sales, and last-mile installation to drive profitability, quality, and scale.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic & Business Operations
- Oversee Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability for the modular furniture vertical.
- Align factory output, production capacity, and supply chain strategies with business revenue targets.
- Scale operations, optimize unit economics, and drive cost-reduction initiatives in manufacturing and logistics.
2. Factory Operations & Manufacturing Excellence
- Direct plant operations, production planning, scheduling, and labor management.
- Supervise advanced panel-processing machinery (CNC routers, panel saws, automated edge banders, drilling/boring machines).
- Implement lean manufacturing, 5S practices, and workflow optimization to maximize output and reduce material waste.
3. Design, Engineering & Cutlist Approval
- Bridge the gap between design teams, site teams, and factory floor execution.
- Ensure strict standards for Bill of Quantities (BOQs), CAD/CAM technical drawings, hardware callouts, and production cutlists.
- Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for value engineering to maintain design integrity while controlling costs.
4. Quality Assurance & Supply Chain Management
- Enforce rigorous Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) checkpoints across incoming board materials, panel sizing, edge-banding, assembly, and packaging.
- Manage procurement for particle boards, MDF, plywood, laminates, acrylics, and hardware (Blum, Hettich, Hafele, etc.).
- Oversee inventory control using FIFO principles to reduce excess stock and stock-outs.
5. Project Delivery & Site Installation
- Lead cross-functional coordination with site execution supervisors to guarantee on-time delivery and seamless installation.
- Resolve field issues, site deviation measurements, and customer escalation quickly to protect brand reputation.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- On-Time In-Full (OTIF) Delivery Rate: Target ≥95% across projects.
- Wastage & Scrap Reduction: Maintain raw material wastage under standard limits (e.g., <3-5%).
- Quality Assurance: Minimize rework, transit damages, and post-installation snag lists.
- Gross Margin & Cost Optimization: Meet annual gross profit targets for the department.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Interior Architecture, Woodworking Technology, or MBA in Operations Management.
- Experience: 8-10 years of total experience in the furniture or interior fit-out industry, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership/head capacity managing modular furniture manufacturing.
- Technical Expertise: Hands-on knowledge of panel processing machinery, edge-banding technologies, hardware mechanisms, surface finishes (PU, laminate, veneer, acrylic), and CAM/CAD software (AutoCAD, Imos, Pytha, CutRite, WoodWOP).
