About Tamas Society
Tamas Society is a grassroots development organization committed to empowering marginalized communities through sustainable livelihood promotion, women's empowerment, skill development, education, and social inclusion. As part of its livelihood initiatives, the Society operates a Model Training Centre for Jute Handicraft Training, enabling rural women to acquire market-oriented skills and build sustainable incomes.
Position Summary
Tamas Society seeks a dynamic, compassionate, and field-oriented Women Community Mobilizer to motivate, organize, and support rural women in participating in its Jute Handicraft Training Programme. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, experience in community engagement, and a passion for women's empowerment and livelihood development.
Key Responsibilities
Mobilize eligible women from villages and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to participate in the jute handicraft training programme.
Conduct community meetings, awareness campaigns, door-to-door visits, and group discussions to promote the programme.
Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities, SHGs, Panchayats, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
Identify eligible beneficiaries and facilitate their enrolment in training programmes.
Maintain participant records, attendance registers, field reports, and mobilization documentation.
Provide continuous motivation and counselling to trainees to ensure regular attendance and successful completion of training.
Coordinate with trainers and project staff for smooth implementation of training activities.
Assist in organizing exhibitions, product demonstrations, exposure visits, and community events.
Monitor trainee progress and provide feedback to the project team.
Support post-training livelihood linkages and follow-up activities wherever required.
Undertake any other project-related responsibilities assigned by the organization.
Eligibility Criteria
Essential Qualifications : Age 25-38 years
Graduate in Social Work, Rural Development, Sociology, Women's Studies, or any relevant discipline.
Candidates with Higher Secondary qualification and significant relevant field experience may also be considered.
Experience
Minimum 1–3 years of experience in community mobilization, women empowerment, livelihood promotion, SHG development, or NGO field programmes.
Experience working with rural communities in South 24 Parganas will be an added advantage.
Required Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in Bengali; knowledge of Hindi and English is desirable.
Strong community engagement and facilitation abilities.
Ability to motivate and inspire women from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Good documentation and reporting skills.
Basic computer knowledge (MS Office, email, and digital reporting).
Willingness to travel extensively within project villages.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
