Hands-on console developer working on both Xbox Series X|S and PS5. You know input remapping, UI/UX cert compliance, first-boot flows, controller navigation, glyph correctness, and systematic cert testing. You can support crash/stability debugging with repro, logs, and profiler traces. Not a junior role — you are expected to ship production-quality fixes without hand-holding.
- 7+ years professional game development
-
Minimum 3 years on console (Xbox / PlayStation / Switch)
-
Shipped at least one console title through platform certification where you personally implemented platform-specific features or cert fixes — not just "worked on"
-
Unity on console — IL2CPP builds, platform-dependent compilation, Unity Input System (new, not legacy), runtime device detection and input glyph swapping
-
Strong Unity UI/UX — UGUI or UI Toolkit, canvas layering, focus management, event system navigation for gamepad. You know how gamepad-driven UI differs from mouse-driven UI
-
Systematic, checklist-driven work habits — cert compliance is pass/fail on dozens of individual items, you test every permutation and document evidence
-
Comfortable working on codebases you did not write — navigating unfamiliar project structures, reading someone else's code, making targeted changes without breaking adjacent systems
- Experience with Xbox XR requirements or PlayStation TRC requirements — even partial (controller disconnect handling, save-data compliance, trophy integration, suspend/resume)
-
Localisation pipelines in Unity — runtime language switching, font fallback for CJK, string table management
-
Unity Addressables or AssetBundle systems
-
On-device profiling — Unity Profiler connected to devkit, reading frame-time spikes, identifying GC allocation patterns
-
Experience capturing crash dumps/logs from devkits and isolating minimal repro cases
-
Familiarity with both Xbox and PS5 devkit workflows
- Experience on both Xbox and PlayStation (not just one)
-
PS5 DualSense features — haptics, adaptive triggers, controller speaker
-
Unreal Engine console experience in addition to Unity
-
Prior porting or cert-compliance project experience
