Job Description (JD) – Costing Engineer
Responsible for product cost estimation, cost optimization, supplier process evaluation, IMDS compliance, and engineering change management. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate costing, efficient project execution, and continuous improvement initiatives while supporting business growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and validate new product cost estimations and obtain approvals for customer quotations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Sales, Program Management, Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, and Operations) to gather inputs for accurate cost analysis.
- Analyze and evaluate estimated costs versus actual costs following business awards and project launches.
- Conduct supplier process audits to address key concerns and support new product development activities.
- Identify and resolve shop-floor cost-related issues impacting part pricing and guide teams in implementing corrective actions.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives through localization projects, including alternate supplier development, resin localization, and conversion from trade to local business.
- Create and manage customer change requests through customer portals for localization and cost-saving projects.
- Provide training and guidance to Sales, Program Management teams, and new employees on project costing methodologies and IMDS requirements.
- Manage IMDS (International Material Data System) verification and submission activities through customer portals, ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate and support continuous improvement projects, focusing on internal and external scrap cost reduction and process enhancements.
- Conduct financial gate reviews and verify project profitability before transfer to Operations.
- Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and ensure timely implementation and communication across stakeholders.
- Support various functions in obtaining Approval Requests (ARs) and required business approvals.
- Monitor project cost performance and recommend actions to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Prepare cost analysis reports, presentations, and business case evaluations to support management decision-making.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Automotive, Plastics, Manufacturing, or related field).
- Experience in product costing, supplier development, manufacturing, program management support, or cost engineering.
- Knowledge of automotive industry processes, APQP, and supplier quality systems is preferred.
