Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Senior Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design of automation systems and special purpose machines (SPMs). The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in conceptualizing, designing, and detailing machines for automated manufacturing processes. This role demands strong expertise in CAD tools, engineering fundamentals, and cross-functional collaboration with electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end mechanical design of automation systems and SPMs based on customer requirements.
- Prepare 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and design documentation using CAD software (SolidWorks/AutoCAD/Inventor etc.).
- Conduct design calculations, tolerance analysis, and material selection based on application.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Controls, Electrical, Manufacturing) for seamless integration and project execution.
- Review and approve design outputs from junior engineers and ensure adherence to design standards.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and DFM (Design for Manufacturing) evaluations.
- Interface with customers to gather requirements and provide design inputs/solutions.
- Support assembly and commissioning teams for machine build and site installations.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in design processes and product reliability.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, GD&T, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in CAD software: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
- Experience with SPM, jigs, fixtures, pneumatics, hydraulics, and servo systems.
- Good understanding of PLC interface requirements, sensors, actuators, and machine safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics (preferred).
- Strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach to design challenges.
- Excellent communication and team coordination abilities.
Preferred Experience:
- Design of automated assembly machines, robotic integration, or material handling equipment.
- Hands-on exposure to machine testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with ISO/CE safety standards for machinery.
- Use of PLM/PDM tools for document control and revision management.
