Echo Technician (Echocardiography Technician)
Position Title: Echo Technician
Department: Cardiology
Reports To: Consultant Cardiologist / HOD Cardiology
Job Summary
The Echo Technician is responsible for performing echocardiography procedures and other non-invasive cardiac diagnostic tests to assist cardiologists in diagnosing and monitoring heart diseases. The technician ensures accurate imaging, patient safety, proper documentation, and maintenance of echocardiography equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Perform 2D Echocardiography, Color Doppler, M-Mode, and Stress Echo studies as prescribed by cardiologists.
- Prepare and position patients for echocardiographic examinations.
- Explain procedures to patients and address their concerns.
- Obtain high-quality cardiac images for accurate diagnosis.
- Assist cardiologists during Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) and other specialized procedures.
- Monitor patients during procedures and report any abnormalities immediately.
- Ensure patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality throughout the examination. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate patient records and test reports.
- Record preliminary findings and submit reports to the cardiologist for interpretation.
- Ensure proper documentation in Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and medical records.
- Maintain logs of all procedures performed.
- Equipment Management
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot echocardiography machines and related equipment.
- Ensure regular cleaning, calibration, and preventive maintenance of equipment.
- Report equipment malfunctions to the Biomedical Department.
- Quality & Compliance
- Follow hospital policies, infection control protocols, and safety guidelines.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with healthcare regulations.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement activities and training programs. Qualifications
- Diploma/B.Sc. in Cardiac Care Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or Medical Imaging Technology.
- Certification in Echocardiography preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in Echocardiography (preferred).
- Skills Required
- Sound knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
- Proficiency in operating echocardiography equipment.
- Strong analytical and observation skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
- Working Conditions
- Hospital/Cardiology Department setting.
- May require rotational shifts, emergency duties, weekends, and on-call responsibilities.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and assist patients during procedures.
- Salary: As per hospital norms and experience.
Pay: ₹10,501.40 - ₹18,000.28 per month
