Job Summary
The Assistant Professor – Travel & Tourism is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, mentoring students, conducting research, and contributing to curriculum development in the field of tourism, travel, and hospitality. The role involves preparing students with the knowledge, practical skills, and industry exposure required for successful careers in the travel and tourism sector.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Learning
- Deliver undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses in Travel & Tourism.
- Prepare lesson plans, course materials, presentations, and assessments.
- Conduct classroom lectures, tutorials, practical sessions, and field-based learning activities.
- Evaluate student performance through examinations, assignments, projects, presentations, and continuous assessments.
- Mentor students on academic progress, internships, and career development.
Curriculum Development
- Develop, review, and update course content to align with current industry trends and academic standards.
- Integrate technology, case studies, and experiential learning into teaching.
- Support Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and accreditation requirements.
Research & Publications
- Conduct research in travel, tourism, destination management, sustainable tourism, hospitality, or related fields.
- Publish research papers in reputed journals and present at national and international conferences.
- Participate in funded research projects and consultancy assignments where applicable.
Industry Engagement
- Establish and maintain relationships with travel agencies, tour operators, airlines, hotels, tourism boards, and other industry stakeholders.
- Coordinate industrial visits, educational tours, internships, and placement activities.
- Organize guest lectures, workshops, seminars, and industry interaction sessions.
Administration
- Participate in departmental meetings, academic committees, and institutional activities.
- Maintain academic records, attendance, examination documentation, and student performance reports.
- Contribute to accreditation processes such as NAAC, NBA, or other regulatory requirements.
Student Development
- Guide students in academic projects, research activities, tourism events, and competitions.
- Support students in organizing tourism-related events, exhibitions, and cultural programs.
- Provide academic advising and career counseling.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Travel & Tourism, Tourism Management, Hospitality & Tourism Management, MBA (Tourism), MTTM, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
- NET/SET/Ph.D. preferred, as per UGC/AICTE/University norms.
- Relevant industry experience in travel, tourism, hospitality, or destination management is desirable.
Experience
- 1–5 years of teaching and/or relevant industry experience.
- Candidates with research experience and publications will be preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of tourism management, travel operations, destination management, tourism marketing, and sustainable tourism.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to mentor and engage students effectively.
- Research, analytical, and academic writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and digital teaching tools.
- Strong organizational and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Competencies
- Industry certifications related to travel and tourism.
- Experience in organizing educational tours, field visits, and tourism events.
- Knowledge of global tourism trends, digital tourism platforms, and travel technologies.
- Familiarity with accreditation and quality assurance processes.
