Job Summary
The Soil & Rock Technician is responsible for conducting laboratory and field testing of soil, rock, aggregates, and construction materials according to Indian Standards (IS codes) and laboratory procedures. The role involves sample collection, testing, documentation, report preparation, and maintaining testing equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory tests on soil, rock, aggregates, cement, concrete, and related construction materials.
- Conduct geotechnical tests such as:
- Grain Size Analysis
- Atterberg Limits
- Proctor Compaction Test
- CBR Test
- Direct Shear Test
- UCS Test
- Rock Core Testing
- SPT data recording
- Collect and prepare field samples for testing.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Record observations, analyze results, and prepare test reports.
- Ensure compliance with IS/ASTM standards and QA/QC procedures.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and safety standards.
- Assist engineers in soil investigation and site inspection activities.
- Coordinate with project engineers and clients regarding testing requirements.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of soil and rock testing procedures.
- Understanding of geotechnical laboratory equipment.
- Ability to prepare technical reports and documentation.
- Basic computer skills (MS Excel, Word).
- Attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of QA/QC standards and safety procedures.
Qualifications
- Diploma or B.Tech in Civil Engineering / Geotechnical Engineering
- OR
- B.Sc. in Geology / Chemistry / Soil Science Experience
- Fresher to 1 years experience in soil testing or geotechnical laboratory work preferred.
Preferred Knowledge
- IS Codes related to soil and rock testing.
- NABL laboratory procedures.
- Field investigation and bore log preparation.
