Job Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Tool Room Engineer with 2–5 years of experience in Die Casting Tool Room / Die Maintenance.
The candidate will be responsible for die maintenance, repair, modification, fitting, assembly, troubleshooting and development of die casting dies used for HPDC / GDC / LPDC processes.
The ideal candidate should have practical knowledge of die fitting, machining, grinding, polishing, engineering drawings, measuring instruments and die troubleshooting and should be capable of supporting production during die-related breakdowns and casting quality issues.
Key ResponsibilitiesDie Maintenance & Repair
- Carry out Preventive Maintenance (PM) of die casting dies.
- Inspect dies after production and identify wear, damage and abnormalities.
- Carry out die repair, modification, rework and improvement activities.
- Handle replacement of worn-out die components such as:
- Core pins
- Ejector pins
- Bushes
- Slides
- Inserts
- Guide pillars
- Guide bushes
- Springs
- Cooling components
- Maintain proper cleaning, lubrication and storage of dies.
- Ensure dies are ready and available as per production requirements.
- Attend urgent die breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
Die Casting – Technical Support
- Work closely with Production and Quality teams to resolve die-related problems.
- Troubleshoot casting defects related to tooling, such as:
- Flash / Burr
- Short filling
- Porosity
- Dimensional variation
- Die sticking
- Ejection problems
- Cracks and damage
- Improper parting
- Identify root causes of die-related problems and implement corrective actions.
- Support die trials and new die commissioning.
- Carry out necessary die corrections based on trial results and production feedback.
- Support continuous improvement activities to increase die life and productivity.
Die Fitting & Assembly
- Perform die fitting, assembly and dismantling activities.
- Check parting line, alignment, shut-off and clearances.
- Ensure proper fitting of cores, inserts, slides and ejector systems.
- Carry out spotting, grinding, polishing and fitting wherever required.
- Check cooling channels and identify leakage/blockage-related issues.
- Ensure proper die assembly before releasing the die for production.
Tool Room Machining
- Operate / coordinate machining activities using:
- Conventional Milling
- Lathe
- Drilling
- Surface Grinding
- CNC / VMC
- EDM / Wire Cut EDM
- Understand machining requirements for die components.
- Coordinate with machinists for manufacturing and modification of die components.
- Ensure components are manufactured as per drawing and required dimensions.
Engineering Drawing & Measurement
- Read and understand 2D engineering drawings and die drawings.
- Understand dimensions, tolerances, fits and basic GD&T.
- Use measuring instruments such as:
- Vernier Caliper
- Micrometer
- Height Gauge
- Dial Gauge
- Bore Gauge
- Depth Gauge
- Verify dimensions of die components before assembly and production use.
Documentation & Tool Control
- Maintain die history cards / die maintenance records.
- Maintain die repair and modification records.
- Record die breakdowns and corrective actions.
- Maintain die PM schedules and checklists.
- Track die shots / production quantity wherever applicable.
- Maintain records of die components, critical spares and replacements.
- Maintain proper identification and storage of dies and die components.
Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Stores and Engineering teams.
- Attend production issues related to dies and provide quick technical support.
- Coordinate with external tool rooms/vendors for specialized machining or die repair work when required.
- Support new die development and engineering changes.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience in die casting die maintenance.
- Good knowledge of HPDC / GDC / LPDC dies.
- Good knowledge of die fitting and assembly.
- Knowledge of die repair, modification and troubleshooting.
- Good knowledge of machining, grinding and polishing operations.
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of fits, tolerances and basic GD&T.
- Knowledge of precision measuring instruments.
- Basic knowledge of CNC/VMC, EDM and Wire Cut operations will be an advantage.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently on the shop floor.
- Good coordination and communication skills.
- Knowledge of 5S and workplace safety.
Preferred Industry Experience
Candidates with experience in the following industries will be preferred:
Aluminium Die Casting | HPDC | GDC | LPDC | Automobile Components | Automotive Die Casting | Pressure Die Casting | Tool Room | Die Maintenance
Qualification
- ITI / Diploma – Tool & Die Making / Mechanical Engineering
- 2–5 years of relevant experience
- Candidates with hands-on experience in Die Casting Tool Room / Die Maintenance will be given preference.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a practical, hands-on and technically strong Tool Room Engineer who can independently handle day-to-day die maintenance, repair, fitting and troubleshooting activities and provide quick support to the production team.
Candidates with only theoretical knowledge and no practical die maintenance experience are not preferred.
