Job Summary
Responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) and IBM MQ environments under the guidance of senior team members. This role focuses on performing routine administration, basic monitoring, and first-level troubleshooting to support middleware components that underpin business applications. The candidate will assist with setup tasks, execute standard operating procedures, and escalate complex issues as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities Installation & Configuration (Assisted): Support the installation and configuration of IBM WebSphere Application Server (Base/ND/Liberty) and IBM MQ on various operating systems (Linux/Unix/Windows), under supervision. Assist in setting up Profiles, Nodes, Queue Managers, and basic MQ Objects (Queues, Channels, Listeners) following documented procedures. Administration & Monitoring: Perform routine daily administration tasks, including starting/stopping services, deploying application EAR/WAR files following change requests, and basic MQ queue monitoring. Monitor system health using tools like IBM Tivoli, Dynatrace, or native consoles, and flag anomalies to senior staff. SSL Setup & Certificate Management (Basic): Assist with routine certificate renewals and KeyStore/TrustStore updates under guidance. Learn and support Certificate Signing Request (CSR) generation processes. Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution (First-Level): Perform initial triage of platform-level issues such as service restarts, basic log review, and MQ channel status checks. Escalate complex problems (hung threads, memory leaks, heap/thread dump analysis) to L2/L3 teams while documenting initial findings. Repository Maintenance: Assist in maintaining and updating the technical repository, including basic version control for configuration scripts and installation guides, under direction from senior team members. Periodical Reporting: Assist in compiling routine reports on environment health, resource utilization (JVM usage, MQ depth), and patch levels for review by senior staff and management.
Skill Requirements
Technical Skills & Requirements IBM WebSphere: Basic understanding of WAS administration concepts, including profile and application server structure. IBM MQ: Foundational knowledge of MQ distributed queuing and basic queue/channel monitoring. Security: Working knowledge of SSL/TLS concepts; exposure to IBM IKEYMAN/gskcmd tools preferred. Scripting: Basic familiarity with Shell scripting; exposure to wsadmin (Jython/Jacl) is a plus. Operating Systems: Basic command-line experience in Linux/Unix environments for log viewing and simple process checks. Web Servers: Basic awareness of IBM HTTP Server (IHS) and plugin configurations.
Other Requirements
Qualifications Education: Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Experience: 0–2 years of hands-on experience in WAS and MQ administration, or relevant internship/lab experience in a production-like environment. Certifications (Preferred): IBM Certified System Administrator - WebSphere Application Server (in progress or completed). IBM Certified System Administrator - MQ (in progress or completed).
