Google's network provides services to millions of Internet users around the world. Our metros are on the edge of our network where Google connects to its users. The Network Team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. Our team owns the full life cycle of all space, power, and network assets in all of Google’s data centers and metro points of presence globally. From the foundation, we are involved from site acquisition to construction and are accountable for what space and power is delivered. We're involved in every facet of network delivery from architecture and design to installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning.
- Monitor network dashboards and alerting systems (e.g., IRM) for anomalies and performance issues and also perform initial triage of alerts, classifying severity and potential impact based on playbooks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents of low to moderate complexity affecting wired and wireless networks, routing, switching, firewalls, etc.
- Manage user-reported network issues submitted via the ticketing system (e.g., GUTS) and provide timely updates to users and stakeholders on ticket status.
- Implement routine and low-impact network changes following approved Change Requests (CRs) and MOPs. This could include tasks like port configurations, VLAN assignments, or software updates on single devices.
- Maintain and update network diagrams and operational documentation and also contribute to knowledge base articles and playbooks based on issue resolutions.
