Faculty — Fullstack Development (JavaScript & Databases)
SITM is building a new-age engineering program from first principles, anchored by its Pre-Engineering Cohort (PEC) and BTech tracks. We're looking for a faculty member to own the fullstack track: the JavaScript ecosystem end-to-end, plus the database fundamentals that make real applications work at scale. You'll take students from "can write a React component" to "can design, build, and ship a production-grade application with a properly modeled database behind it."
Location
SITM Campus, Guwahati (in-person)
Engagement
Full-time faculty / Fractional-to-full-time track available
Reports to
Director, Curriculum & Student Success
Cohort
Pre-Engineering Cohort (PEC) and broader BTech cohort
What You'll Do
- modern frontend (React/Next.js), backend (Node.js/Express), REST and API design, authentication, and deployment.Design and teach the JavaScript fullstack sequence:
- relational modeling and SQL (Postgres/MySQL), NoSQL (MongoDB), indexing, query optimization, and the trade-offs between them for real product decisions.Design and teach databases:
- a capstone-driven track where students ship a deployed, database-backed application, not a series of disconnected exercises.Build project-based curriculum:
- structured feedback on students' codebases, schema design, and system design decisions.Run code review and architecture sessions:
- help students build GitHub portfolios and prep for fullstack/backend interview rounds.Mentor for technical interviews and portfolios:
- collaborate with the broader faculty team on SITM's lab infrastructure and hackathon formats across the curriculum.Contribute to lab and hackathon design:
What You Bring
- of professional experience building and shipping production applications with the modern JavaScript ecosystem.4+ years
- comfortable designing schemas, writing performant queries, and explaining indexing and normalization trade-offs from first principles.Strong database fundamentals:
- able to take a project from frontend UI through backend APIs to database and deployment, and teach that whole arc.End-to-end fluency:
- — you can debug a student's code live and turn it into a teaching moment.Clear, patient communication
Nice to Have
- Prior teaching, bootcamp, or structured mentoring experience.
- Startup or high-growth company experience where you owned fullstack decisions end-to-end.
- Cloud deployment and DevOps exposure (AWS/GCP, CI/CD, Docker).
- Open-source contributions or a public portfolio of shipped projects.
Who Thrives Here
- You think in systems — you can zoom from a database index to a UI re-render and back.
- You'd rather review a student's messy real project than grade a clean toy assignment.
- You're energized by watching students ship something real, not just pass a test.
What You Get
- A founding-faculty seat in building a new kind of engineering program from scratch.
- A highly motivated, selectively admitted student cohort under the Pre-Engineering Cohort initiative.
- Direct input into curriculum architecture, not just delivery within someone else's syllabus.
- Competitive compensation, structured around a mix of fixed pay and outcome-linked incentives.
