Post - New Product Development Fabrication Engineer
Edu - DME, BE MECHANICAL, BE AUTOMOBILE
Exp - 2 to 5 years above
1. Design for Manufacturability (DFM) & Engineering
- Review & Conceptualize: Interpret client requirements, 2D drawings, and 3D models.
- Design Optimization: Modify designs to ensure they are production-ready, reducing material waste and fabrication time.
- Flat Pattern Generation: Calculate bend allowances, k-factors, and flat patterns for sheet metal.
- CAD/CAM Proficiency: Create detailed manufacturing drawings, weldment blueprints, and BOMs using tools like SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
2. Process Planning & Tooling
- Process Mapping: Define exact fabrication workflows (e.g., laser cutting, punching, bending, welding, and assembly).
- Tool & Fixture Design: Design jigs, dies, and fixtures necessary for accurate and repeatable fabrication.
- Work Instructions: Create detailed process flow diagrams and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the shop floor.
3. Cost Estimation & Quality Management
- Costing: Estimate production costs including raw materials, labor, and machine time.
- Quality Planning: Implement quality standards using frameworks like APQP, PPAP, and DFMEA/PFMEA to prevent defects before they occur.
- Tolerance Analysis: Ensure assemblies meet strict dimensional and geometric tolerances (GD&T).
4. Prototyping & Production
- Proto Build: Oversee the fabrication and testing of initial prototypes.
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot issues on the shop floor during initial production runs (e.g., welding defects or press brake forming inaccuracies).
- Continuous Improvement: Streamline processes to reduce lead times and improve overall shop-floor efficiency.
