Job Summary
The Purchase Officer is responsible for sourcing and procuring raw materials, engineering spares, plant consumables, packaging materials, and maintenance items required for the smooth operation of a chemical manufacturing plant. The role requires an engineering background, sound knowledge of Purchase Order (PO) processing, vendor management, cost negotiation, and coordination with production, maintenance, stores, and accounts teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Procure raw materials, chemicals, engineering spares, maintenance consumables, packing materials, and plant equipment as per approved purchase requisitions.
- Prepare, review, and issue Purchase Orders (POs) in compliance with company procurement policies and technical specifications.
- Obtain quotations from multiple vendors, conduct comparative analysis, and finalize suppliers after negotiation.
- Develop and maintain a reliable vendor base for engineering items and chemical industry requirements.
- Coordinate with the Production, Maintenance, QA/QC, and Stores departments to ensure uninterrupted material availability.
- Follow up with vendors for timely delivery and ensure adherence to agreed delivery schedules.
- Verify technical specifications, quality requirements, and compliance documents before procurement.
- Coordinate with Stores and Accounts for GRN preparation, invoice verification, and payment processing.
- Maintain records of POs, quotations, contracts, and vendor performance evaluations.
- Monitor inventory levels and support inventory optimization to avoid stock shortages or excess inventory.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and safety requirements while procuring chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Support internal and external audits by maintaining proper procurement documentation and records.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in procurement within a chemical or manufacturing industry.
- Experience in engineering purchase, raw material sourcing, and vendor management is preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Purchase Order (PO) preparation, processing, and tracking.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, technical specifications, and industrial equipment.
- Knowledge of chemical industry raw materials, consumables, and procurement practices.
- Proficiency in ERP/SAP systems and MS Excel.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and vendor management skills.
- Good communication and interdepartmental coordination abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet procurement timelines.
Pay: ₹300,000.00 - ₹400,000.00 per year
