Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Service Mapping initiatives using ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping modules.
- Architect and maintain accurate service maps for critical business applications and infrastructure.
- Collaborate with application owners, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to define service boundaries and dependencies.
- Configure and deploy MID Servers across diverse environments (on-prem, cloud).
- Develop and optimize Discovery Patterns, leveraging scripting and automation to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot service mapping errors, validate MID Server connectivity, and ensure data integrity in the CMDB.
- Utilize traffic-based discovery techniques including ML connection suggestions and cloud-native tagging.
- Maintain and enforce Service Mapping roles and permissions (e.g., sm_admin, sm_user, sm_app_owner).
- Document service mapping standards, processes, and training materials.
Required Skills & Experience
ServiceNow Platform Expertise
- Deep understanding of ServiceNow CMDB structure and relationships.
- Hands-on experience with Discovery and Service Mapping modules.
- Proficient in MID Server configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting.
Technical Knowledge
- Broad IT infrastructure knowledge including:
- Network protocols: SSH, SNMP, WMI, CIM
- Operating systems: Windows, Linux
- Virtualization platforms: VMware vCenter, Hyper-V
- Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure
- Database systems: Mapping via IP:PORT when URLs are unavailable
Discovery Techniques
- Top-down discovery using predefined patterns.
- ML-based traffic discovery and application fingerprinting.
- Tag-based discovery leveraging cloud-native metadata.
Scripting & Automation
- Strong JavaScript skills for ServiceNow scripting.
- Experience creating/modifying Discovery Patterns.
- Familiarity with Unix Shell scripting, Windows PowerShell, and Regex.
- Diagnosing service mapping errors and avoiding duplication.
- Working with XML and JSON data formats.
- Ensuring performance and accuracy of MID Servers and service maps.
Troubleshooting & Optimization
Experience Required:
- 12+ years of total software engineering/ IT experience. 10+ years of overall ServiceNow platform experience.
- 5+ years of CMDB/Service Mapping experience.
- Experience with application architecture and standard configurations.
- Practical experience with enterprise-scale Service Mapping deployments.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes, CSDM and CMDB governance
Training and Certifications:
- ServiceNow Admin Certified (Must Have)
- ServiceNow Service Mapping Implementation Certified. (Must Have)
- ServiceNow Discovery Implementation Certified. (Must Have)
ServiceNow Event management Implementation Certified.
