Job Purpose: To coordinate, schedule, and monitor daily production activities in the paper manufacturing unit, ensuring efficient workflow across pulping, paper machine, and finishing operations, timely completion of orders, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Production Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate daily production schedules for the paper machine(s) based on sales orders, GSM/grade requirements, and inventory levels.
- Plan deckle-wise runs to maximize machine utilization and minimize trim loss.
- Track work-in-progress (wet-end to reel) and finished goods (reels/sheets) against production targets.
- Liaise with dispatch, procurement, and stores teams for smooth workflow.
2. Material & Inventory Management
- Monitor availability of raw materials — pulp/waste paper, chemicals (sizing agents, fillers, dyes), felts, wires, and packing materials.
- Reduce broke generation and fiber wastage; optimize chemical consumption and inventory levels.
- Coordinate reel stock and sheeting stock to match order requirements.
3. Process Monitoring & Improvement
- Supervise operations across stock preparation, paper machine (wet end, press, dryer), rewinding, sheeting, and packing to ensure compliance with SOPs.
- Monitor key process parameters — GSM, moisture, thickness (caliper), brightness, and machine speed.
- Identify bottlenecks (web breaks, downtime, quality rejections) and coordinate with maintenance, electrical, and quality teams for resolution.
- Suggest and implement improvements for machine efficiency, energy saving, and cost reduction.
4. Quality Assurance & Documentation
- Ensure adherence to quality parameters (GSM, bursting strength, tensile, brightness, moisture) at all stages of production.
- Maintain accurate shift-wise production reports, downtime logs, broke records, and consumption data.
- Support internal/external audits (ISO, BIS, environmental compliance) with proper documentation.
5. Team Coordination
- Coordinate with machine operators, back-tenders, helpers, shift supervisors, and lab/QC staff.
- Ensure shift handovers are documented, and production continuity is maintained.
Key Skills Required:
- Good understanding of paper manufacturing processes — stock preparation, wet end/dry end operations, calendaring, rewinding, sheeting, and packing
- Knowledge of paper quality parameters (GSM, caliper, bursting/tensile strength, brightness, moisture)
- Strong communication and coordination skills across shifts and departments
- Familiarity with MS Office or ERP systems (production and inventory modules)
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities under production pressure
- Knowledge of safety protocols, pollution control norms, and quality control standards (ISO/BIS)
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing KPIs (OEE, efficiency, yield, downtime, productivity).
- Experience in production planning, scheduling, and MIS reporting.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and TPM.
- Ability to coordinate with plants, vendors, and third-party manufacturers.
- Knowledge of inventory, material, and capacity planning.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and coordination skills.
