Job Role of ICU Nurse1. Patient Monitoring & Assessment
- Continuously monitor vital signs (BP, pulse, oxygen saturation, ECG)
- Assess patient condition and detect early signs of deterioration
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records
2. Critical Care Management
- Provide care to critically ill patients (ventilator support, organ failure, trauma, post-surgery)
- Assist in life-saving procedures (intubation, CPR, defibrillation)
- Manage patients on ventilators and other life-support systems
3. Medication Administration
- Administer IV medications, infusions, and emergency drugs
- Monitor for side effects and drug reactions
- Ensure correct dosage and timely delivery
4. Operation & Maintenance of Equipment
- Handle ICU equipment such as:
- Ventilators
- Cardiac monitors
- Infusion pumps
- Ensure proper functioning and report any malfunction
5. Infection Control Practices
- Follow strict infection control protocols
- Use PPE appropriately
- Maintain aseptic techniques to prevent hospital-acquired infections
6. Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with doctors, specialists, and other healthcare staff
- Communicate patient status during rounds and handovers
- Provide updates and emotional support to patient families
7. Emergency Response
- Respond quickly to medical emergencies
- Participate in code blue situations
- Perform basic and advanced life support when required
8. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain detailed nursing notes
- Record treatment plans, interventions, and patient responses
- Ensure legal and clinical documentation accuracy
9. Patient Care & Comfort
- Assist with hygiene, feeding, positioning, and mobility
- Provide psychological support to patients and families
- Ensure patient dignity and comfort
10. Adherence to Protocols
- Follow hospital policies, ICU protocols, and safety guidelines
- Participate in audits, training, and quality improvement programs
