EyeROV is seeking a high-caliber, multidisciplinary Lead Engineer to serve as the technical cornerstone of our R&D team. This versatile technical leader will drive the execution, innovation, and seamless integration of complex underwater robotic platforms.
The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced startup environments and possesses the unique ability to bridge the gap between Mechanical Product Design, Hardware Engineering, Embedded Firmware, and Software Systems. Beyond technical execution, you will play a pivotal role in scaling the engineering team by identifying resource gaps and leading the recruitment of high-quality talent to meet the needs of emerging projects.
- Multidisciplinary Technical Leadership: Act as the primary technical authority, providing hands-on guidance across the "Full-Stack" of robotics: Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, and Software.
- System-Level Integration: Own the holistic architectural design. Ensure that mechanical frames, power delivery systems, and communication protocols are synchronized for peak performance in harsh underwater environments.
- Project & Resource Orchestration: Lead and mentor specialized resources from Product Design, Hardware, Embedded, and Software teams to deliver field-ready products on schedule.
- Talent Acquisition & Team Scaling: Identify human resource requirements based on upcoming project roadmaps and technical requirements. Actively participate in the hiring process, from defining role specifications to conducting technical interviews and onboarding new talent.
- End-to-End Product Lifecycle: Drive development from initial concept and rapid prototyping to validation, hyperbaric pressure testing, and final field deployment.
- Structured Problem Solving: Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for complex, cross-domain issues (e.g., hardware-software timing bugs, structural integrity under pressure, or EMI/EMC interference).
- Design Review & Quality Excellence: Oversee engineering design reviews (CAD, PCB, Firmware) to ensure adherence to Engineering Standards (GD&T, DFM, IPC, QAP/ATP).
- Technical Synergy: Work closely with Technical Sales and Operations to convert customer requirements into actionable R&D tasks and maintain detailed BOMs and project budgets.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering (highly preferred) or a related multidisciplinary field (Robotics/Electrical/Mechanical).
- Experience: Minimum of 5–7+ years of relevant industry experience in R&D and product development.
- Domain Expertise: Proven track record of taking complex, hardware-integrated products from concept to volume production, ideally for harsh environments (Marine, Aerospace, or Defense).
To succeed in this role, the candidate must demonstrate proficiency across:
- Systems Architecture: Experience with ROS/ROS2, Linux environments, and distributed system design.
- Embedded & Software Concepts: Strong understanding of embedded and software concepts; experience with real-time operating systems and standard industrial/robotic communication protocols.
- Hardware & Power: Understanding of PCB design (Altium/KiCad), power electronics, and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
- Mechanical & Simulation: Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD; understanding of FEA/CFD and sealing/waterproofing principles for high-pressure environments.
- Tools: Command over Git workflows, CI/CD for hardware/software, and testing equipment (DSO, Logic Analyzers).
- Integration Success: Reliable functionality of hardware-software interfaces in field trials.
- Product Robustness: Reduction in Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) for deployed systems.
- Team Building: Successful identification and onboarding of technical talent aligned with project timelines and resource requirements.
- Execution Speed: Ability to lead the team through rapid prototyping iterations without compromising technical documentation.
- Mentorship: Technical growth and increased autonomy of the specialized engineering resources under leadership.
