Department: Tannery Operations & Leather Processing
Location: Kolkata, West Bengal
Reporting To: Tannery Manager / Factory Head / Director – Operations
Salary: ₹20,000 – ₹50,000 per month (Depending on experience, skills, and industry knowledge)
Job Summary
Stichwell Exports Pvt. Ltd. is looking for a dedicated and experienced Tannery In-Charge / Tannery Executive to oversee day-to-day leather processing activities and ensure the production of quality leather as per company and customer requirements.
The candidate should have practical knowledge of leather tanning processes, leather quality evaluation, chemical usage, production coordination, and tannery operations. The role requires close coordination with production, quality, purchase, and leather procurement teams to ensure timely availability of quality leather for manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Tannery Operations
- Supervise daily leather processing activities within the tannery.
- Monitor various stages of leather processing including soaking, liming, tanning, dyeing, drying, and finishing.
- Ensure production targets are achieved as per schedules.
- Coordinate with tannery workers and supervisors to maintain smooth operations.
Leather Quality Monitoring
- Inspect leather quality at different stages of processing.
- Ensure leather meets required standards for:
Ø Thickness
Ø Softness
Ø Colour consistency
Ø Grain quality
Ø Texture
Ø Finish
- Identify defects and coordinate corrective actions.
Production Coordination
- Coordinate with production and procurement teams regarding leather requirements.
- Ensure timely processing and delivery of leather for sampling and bulk production.
- Assist in planning leather availability based on production schedules.
- Chemical & Material Control
- Monitor proper usage of tanning chemicals, dyes, oils, and finishing materials.
- Maintain records of chemical consumption and leather yield.
- Support efforts to reduce wastage and improve processing efficiency.
Vendor & Tannery Coordination
- Coordinate with external tanneries and leather suppliers when required.
- Follow up on outsourced tanning and finishing activities.
- Monitor quality and delivery performance of suppliers.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain production and quality records.
- Prepare daily and weekly reports related to leather processing and stock movement.
- Report operational issues and quality concerns to management.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure safe handling of chemicals and materials.
- Follow company safety guidelines and environmental practices.
- Maintain cleanliness and discipline within the work area.
Required Skills
- Good knowledge of leather tanning and finishing processes.
- Understanding of leather grades, quality parameters, and defects.
- Knowledge of tanning chemicals and processing methods.
- Ability to coordinate with production, quality, and procurement teams.
- Good problem-solving and communication skills.
- Basic computer knowledge (Excel, Email, Reporting).
- Ability to work on the factory floor and monitor operations closely.
Educational Qualification
- Diploma / Degree in Leather Technology preferred.
- Candidates with practical tannery experience and relevant industry exposure will also be considered.
Experience Required
- Minimum 4–5 years of experience in Tannery Operations, Leather Processing, or Leather Manufacturing.
- Experience in Cow, Buffalo, Goat, Sheep, Finished Leather, or Leather Goods Manufacturing preferred.
- Experience in export-oriented leather units will be an added advantage.
