The Forward Deployed Engineer Intern works close to customers and internal solution teams to turn real business requirements into working software. This is a builder-generalist role for someone comfortable moving across backend services, lightweight frontend work, integrations, data, scripting, and AI/LLM configuration to get a customer outcome working quickly.
Role Overview
Forward Deployed Engineers operate at the edge of the product: understanding the customer problem, prototyping a solution, integrating the platform into the customer environment, and iterating until it works reliably. The intern will support this loop hands-on and learn how enterprise AI products are adapted and deployed in real-world environments.
This role is intentionally broad and customer-facing. Communication, speed of learning, resourcefulness, and ownership matter as much as coding ability.
What You Will Work On
- Work with solutions engineers and customer teams to understand requirements, workflows, systems, and constraints.
- Rapidly prototype and build customer-specific solutions, integrations, workflows, and internal tools on top of EvolutionCo platforms.
- Write connectors, scripts, and glue code to integrate APIs, customer systems, identity providers, and data sources.
- Configure and tailor AI/LLM capabilities such as RAG, prompt flows, embeddings, and agentic workflows for customer use cases.
- Support data onboarding, including extraction, cleaning, transformation, mapping, and loading.
- Build demos and POCs that validate a concept quickly and can be shown directly to customers or internal stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot deployment and integration issues, identify root causes, and work with product/backend teams on fixes.
- Translate customer feedback into clear technical requirements, implementation notes, and product insights.
- Document the solution sufficiently so it can be supported, repeated, and handed over.
- Occasionally support on-site deployment or customer working sessions when an engagement requires it.
Technical Environment
- Languages: Python (primary), JavaScript / TypeScript, SQL, Bash.
- Backend / full-stack: FastAPI, Flask, Node.js, React, scripting and automation.
- APIs and integrations: REST, GraphQL, webhooks, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SSO.
- AI / LLM: OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, agents, prompt engineering.
- Data: PostgreSQL, CSV / JSON, ETL and data wrangling.
- DevOps / cloud: Docker, Git/GitHub, CI/CD, basic AWS / Azure / GCP.
- Tools: Postman / Insomnia, notebooks, command-line tooling.
Required Skills
- Solid programming fundamentals in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Ability to build a small backend or full-stack feature end to end.
- Good understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, and basic SQL/database concepts.
- Hands-on exposure to at least one AI/LLM API or AI-powered project.
- Comfort with Git and reading or modifying unfamiliar code.
- Strong problem solving in ambiguous situations; able to investigate without step-by-step instructions.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including comfort speaking with non-engineers.
- High ownership, adaptability, curiosity, and a bias toward getting a working outcome shipped.
Good to Have
- Deployed side projects, hackathon builds, or a strong GitHub portfolio.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs, webhooks, or identity systems.
- Experience with RAG, agents, embeddings, vector databases, or data pipelines.
- Docker, cloud platforms, deployment, or CI/CD exposure.
- Any customer-facing, consulting, support, freelance, or implementation experience.

A builder-generalist who enjoys ambiguity and can learn whatever technology the problem requires. The ideal candidate cares about customer outcomes more than framework purity, communicates clearly, and is comfortable moving from a conversation or rough requirement to a working prototype or integration.
Eligibility
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree/diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Strong self-taught builders with demonstrable project work are also welcome.
- Academic projects, personal projects, GitHub repositories, hackathons, previous internships, or freelance work that demonstrate the ability to build and ship are highly valued.
Internship Development Framework
- Structured onboarding into the relevant EvolutionCo platforms, engineering practices, and active solution areas.
- Clear task allocation and an explicit learning roadmap aligned to the role.
- Active mentoring from the team lead / senior engineers.
- Ongoing performance tracking and evaluation against engineering quality, ownership, learning speed, communication, and delivery outcomes.
