A cook in a residential school is responsible for preparing nutritious, hygienic, and tasty meals for students and staff. They ensure proper kitchen management, food safety, and timely meal service.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare daily meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks) as per the school menuMaintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and dining areaEnsure proper storage of food items to avoid spoilageFollow safety and health regulations while cookingPlan menus in coordination with school authorities or nutritionistsManage kitchen inventory (groceries, vegetables, etc.)Supervise kitchen helpers and assign dutiesEnsure meals meet students’ nutritional needsHandle special dietary requirements
Skills Required
Knowledge of cooking (local and basic continental dishes)Understanding of hygiene and food safety practicesTime management and ability to cook in large quantitiesTeamwork and leadership skillsBasic knowledge of nutrition
Qualifications
Experience as a cook (preferably in schools, hostels, or large kitchens)Basic education (not always mandatory, but preferred)Training in cooking or food safety is an advantage
