Job Summary
We are looking for skilled Grinders with experience in the shipbuilding or heavy engineering industry. The candidate will be responsible for grinding, finishing, and preparing steel surfaces to meet welding, fabrication, and painting quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform grinding, beveling, and surface finishing of steel plates, pipes, and structural components.
- Remove weld spatter, slag, rust, burrs, and surface defects using angle grinders and other power tools.
- Prepare weld joints for fabrication and inspection.
- Ensure smooth finishing before painting or coating activities.
- Read and understand fabrication drawings and work instructions.
- Inspect finished surfaces for quality and dimensional accuracy.
- Maintain grinding tools and replace grinding wheels/discs when required.
- Follow workplace safety procedures and use appropriate PPE at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping in the work area.
- Coordinate with welders, fitters, and supervisors to complete work within project timelines.
Requirements
- ITI / Vocational qualification preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience as a Grinder in a shipyard, offshore, heavy fabrication, or steel structure industry.
- Good knowledge of angle grinders, beveling machines, and surface finishing techniques.
- Ability to identify grinding defects and perform corrective actions.
- Knowledge of safety practices in a shipyard environment.
- Physically fit and willing to work in production areas.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in new shipbuilding or ship repair projects.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Team player with a strong focus on quality and productivity.
