What we are looking for
- The purpose of this role is to assess complex NDE issues for internal and external clients, and to determine solutions where previous experience does not provide any precedent.
- To assess complex NDE issues for internal / external clients where the parameters are not well defined and to determine solutions where previous experience does not provide precedent. The role may also include managing projects, providing technical support, consultancy and verification services to manufacturers, shipyards and suppliers to ensure continued compliance with Classification Rules, procedures and industry codes or standards.

The role
- To undertake on-site verification work, as required, for internal/external clients and provide reports on the findings.
- To perform assessments of global NDE service providers and provide certification as appropriate.
- To update and maintain the Lloyd’s Register Rules and regulations for NDE, and to ensure that emerging technologies are assessed / validated for acceptance.
- To undertake project management when required, including monitoring project progress and spending against budgetary and contractual requirements.
- To provide formal technical training, both internally to LR personnel and external clients.
- Monitor developments in NDE and produce reports into novel or new NDE methods and applications.
- Participate in internal and joint industry research projects.
- To provide technical training for surveyors and clients, shipyards, manufacturers and owners.
What you bring
- A degree, or equivalent, in engineering, in addition to practical NDE qualifications and experience, e.g. Level III ISO 9712 in at least one method and Level II in the basic methods. Further training will be available to gain additional Level III certification in other methods.
- Consideration will be given to candidates with lower educational qualifications but possessing extensive industrial experience and Level II NDE qualifications progressing to Level III.
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or working toward this.
- Experience of using both conventional and advanced Ultrasonic equipment and reviewing associated reports
- Experience of the marine or other industries relating to fabrication and in-service inspection.
- Demonstrable experience showing career progression in various roles.
- Practical ability to review / develop NDE procedures for routine and novel techniques and inspections.
- Computer literate and capable of compiling detailed technical reports of investigations, validations, site audits and novel NDE methods.
- Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
