Job Description - Automation Engineer (Electrical Panels & Power Systems)
Location: Guindy, Chennai
Experience: 3–8 Years
Working Days: 6 Days a Week (Monday – Saturday)

Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and innovative Automation Engineer to design, program, test, commission, and support industrial automation systems for LT, HT, Specialized, and Marine Electrical Panels. The role involves developing PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, and communication solutions while working closely with Design, Production, Projects, and Service teams to deliver reliable and efficient automation systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Automation System Design & Development
- Develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA software for industrial automation and power management applications
- Design control philosophies, I/O lists, cause & effect matrices, and functional design specifications
- Prepare PLC architecture, network topology, and control system documentation
- Configure communication networks for automation systems and intelligent devices
2. PLC Programming & HMI/SCADA Development
- Develop, test, and troubleshoot PLC logic for power and process control applications
- Design and configure HMI and SCADA graphics, alarms, trends, reports, and data logging
- Configure industrial communication protocols including Modbus RTU/TCP, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, CAN, OPC UA, and RS-485
- Perform software simulation and validation prior to deployment
3. Commissioning & Site Support
- Perform FAT, SAT, installation support, testing, and commissioning activities at customer sites
- Integrate PLC systems with MCC, PCC, DG Synchronization Panels, AMF Panels, VFDs, Power Management Systems (PMS), BMS, and third-party equipment
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, communication, and control system issues during commissioning
- Provide remote and on-site technical support to customers
4. Documentation & Engineering Support
- Prepare electrical control drawings, PLC I/O schedules, cable schedules, communication architecture, software backups, and operation manuals
- Maintain software version control and engineering documentation
- Support Design, Estimation, Production, QA/QC, and Service teams with automation-related technical clarifications
- Implement engineering changes based on project requirements and customer feedback
5. Customer Support & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct customer training on PLC, HMI, SCADA, and system operation
- Analyse field issues and recommend corrective and preventive actions
- Support retrofit, modernization, and system upgrade projects
- Continuously improve automation solutions for reliability, maintainability, and operational efficiency
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, and Industrial Automation Systems
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming platforms such as Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Delta, or CODESYS
- Experience in HMI and SCADA development using WinCC, FactoryTalk, Ignition, Citect, AVEVA/Wonderware, or equivalent platforms
- Good understanding of industrial communication protocols including Modbus RTU/TCP, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, Profibus, CAN, and RS-485
- Knowledge of DG Synchronization, AMF, Load Sharing, Power Management Systems (PMS), and Motor Control applications
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, SLDs, GA drawings, control schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication, documentation, and customer interaction skills
Qualifications
- Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Automation, or Mechatronics Engineering
Experience
- 3–8 years of experience in industrial automation, PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, and electrical panel automation
- Experience in Electrical Panel Manufacturing, Industrial Automation, Marine & Offshore Systems, Power Distribution, Data Centers, or Process Industries preferred
- Exposure to FAT, SAT, commissioning, and customer support activities will be an added advantage
Travel Requirement
- Willingness to travel across India and overseas for commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer support
- Ability to stay at project sites for extended durations whenever required
