About The Neu Wave
The Neu Wave is a contemporary fashion brand creating modern, artistic fashion through traditional Indian hand-embroidery and craftsmanship. We are looking for a Fashion Designer cum Merchandiser who can bridge creative design, artisan craftsmanship, sourcing, and production to develop distinctive collections for an international audience.
Role Overview
We’re looking for someone who understands both fashion design and the practicalities of production—someone who can take an idea from concept to final product while working closely with adda artisans, vendors, and production teams.
The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of modern international fashion, luxury/slow-fashion aesthetics, embroidery techniques, fabrics, trims, and garment construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop original and contemporary fashion concepts aligned with The Neu Wave’s aesthetic.
- Research international fashion brands, designers, trends, silhouettes, textiles, embroidery and global markets.
- Create moodboards, design concepts, colour stories and seasonal collections.
- Develop designs specifically for hand embroidery, beads, cutdana, sequins and other artisanal techniques.
- Work directly with adda karigars/artisans to translate designs into embroidery.
- Prepare and understand khakas (embroidery/layout drawings) and communicate designs clearly to artisans.
- Create CADs / technical drawings for garments and embroidery placements.
- Source fabrics, trims, embellishments, embroidery materials and other components.
- Identify and coordinate with reliable vendors, artisans and production partners.
- Develop samples and coordinate multiple rounds of sampling until the desired finish is achieved.
- Ensure that the final product matches the intended design, quality, measurements and detailing.
- Prepare and maintain product specifications, measurements, material requirements and production details.
- Coordinate with production and merchandising teams to ensure timely development and delivery.
- Maintain awareness of international fashion markets and customer preferences, particularly contemporary and luxury fashion.
- Help build a commercially viable product range while maintaining the brand’s artistic identity.
What We’re Looking For
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in fashion design, merchandising, product development or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of hand embroidery and Indian artisanal techniques.
- Experience working with adda karigars or embroidery artisans is highly preferred.
- Ability to understand, create and communicate khakas.
- Proficiency in creating CADs / technical fashion illustrations.
- Strong knowledge of fabrics, trims, embellishments and garment construction.
- Good understanding of international fashion brands, contemporary fashion and global trends.
- Strong sourcing and vendor-management skills.
- Ability to independently take a design from concept → sampling → artisan development → production.
- Excellent attention to detail and understanding of quality.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- A creative eye with a balance of artistic thinking and commercial understanding.
Who Will Be a Great Fit?
We’re looking for someone who is hands-on, curious and highly detail-oriented—not someone who only creates designs on paper.
You should be comfortable sitting with an artisan, explaining an embroidery concept, correcting a sample, sourcing the right material, creating a CAD, and following the product all the way through production.
