Job Summary
The Laboratory Assistant will support the effective functioning of academic laboratories by assisting faculty members, maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring safety procedures, and helping students during practical sessions. The role requires technical knowledge, laboratory management skills, and adherence to university and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
- Prepare laboratories for practical sessions, workshops, and demonstrations.
- Assist faculty members during laboratory experiments and project activities.
- Maintain laboratory records, stock registers, and equipment logs.
- Ensure proper arrangement and cleanliness of laboratory spaces.
Equipment Maintenance
- Handle installation, calibration, and routine maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Identify and report equipment faults or breakdowns.
- Coordinate with vendors/service personnel for repairs and annual maintenance.
Inventory & Documentation
- Maintain consumables, tools, components, and laboratory materials inventory.
- Monitor stock levels and assist in procurement processes.
- Maintain records related to issue/return of equipment and materials.
Student Support
- Guide students regarding laboratory procedures and safe handling of equipment.
- Assist students during experiments, mini-projects, and research activities.
- Support conduct of examinations, practical assessments, and project evaluations.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards and university regulations.
- Maintain safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and protective gear.
- Follow proper disposal procedures for laboratory waste and hazardous materials.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Engineering or Science discipline from a recognized institution.
Experience
- 1–3 years of laboratory or technical assistant experience preferred.
- Freshers with strong technical skills may also apply.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of laboratory instruments and equipment handling.
- Basic troubleshooting and maintenance skills.
- Familiarity with MS Office, laboratory documentation, and inventory management.
Soft Skills
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Organizational and record-keeping skills.
