AND
x1 fixed term (part-time) Rehabilitation Coach position avaliable from 13th of July - 22nd of December 2026 - 64 hours per fortnight
Pay rate between $24.00 and $30.00 dependant on qualifications and experience.
Are you interested in working with clients to achieve independence, inclusion and quality of life after a brain injury? We have an exciting opportunity for a Rehabilitation Coach to join our Rehabilitation team.
Build your skills as a rehabilitation coach in our well-established Charitable Trust. In this role you will support people with traumatic brain injuries to rebuild confidence, independence, and achieve meaningful goals. This rewarding role combines your compassion, integrity, communication skills, ability to quickly build rapport, implement strategies and reflective practice with regular supervision from Allied Health professionals. Te Whiwhinga Mahi/The Opportunity
You will assist clients/kiritaki to achieve their goals and build on their independence in daily life by maximising their participation in activities and practicing skills in their home and local community.
A day in the life of a Rehabilitation Coach varies from day to day, but may include enabling kiritaki to:
- Carry out a gym or pool programme
- Meal preparation, and set a budget for their weekly groceries
- Identify and use strategies for planning and problem solving
- Grow natural supports
- Find volunteering opportunities or groups in their local area
- Participate in groups focussed on building skills and connections
- Explore new activities related to their interests in their local community
- Establish a daily routine and use strategies such as planners and schedules
- Learn a new life, communication or cognitive skill
Our Rehabilitation Coaches work both 1:1 with clients/kiritaki in the community, as well as in a group setting with other clients and Rehabilitation Coaches. You will work closely with the kiritaki, their whanau and other team members such as Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists. Our team primarily work Monday to Friday within business hours, so no shift or weekend work is required.

- Have experience working with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or in a role supporting people with cognitive, behavioural or emotional difficulties.
- Understand Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and an appreciation of Maori perspectives, as well as the cultures and communities that make up Aotearoa New Zealand.
- Able to work as part of the team as well as independently.
- Have sound spoken and written communication skills.
- Good computer literacy.
- Have a full clean valid driver licence and the ability to drive a 10-seater van.
- Be able to work with a range of clients on their individual goals. This will include some clients with challenging behaviours, physical conditions and complex social backgrounds.
- Be able to maximise independence of our clients whilst encouraging choice, initiation and participation in activity.
- Be able to demonstrate efficient time management.
- Previous experience working in a rehabilitation setting would be an advantage.
- Preference for NZQA Level 4 qualification in Brain Injury, Level 4 Health and Wellbeing or equivalent, but not essential. We value relevant life and work experience.
