Laboratory HOD – DRI
Department: Quality Assurance – DRI Division | Location: SRP, Ramgarh | Reports to: GM – DRI / Head – QA
Purpose: Control the quality gate on both sides of the process — certifying incoming raw material before acceptance and sponge iron before it moves to SMS or to customers.
Qualification: M.Sc. / B.Sc. in Chemistry
Experience: 10–12 years in a DRI plant covering production support and quality assurance, with working knowledge of IS test methods for ore, coal and sponge iron.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse iron ore for total Fe, gangue, LOI, moisture, sizing and tumbler / abrasion indices.
- Analyse coal for fixed carbon, volatile matter, ash, moisture, sulphur, CV, reactivity and ash fusion temperature.
- Clear or reject each incoming lot; issue the quality report governing unloading and payment.
- Analyse sponge iron for total Fe, metallic Fe, metallisation, carbon, sulphur, gangue and sizing.
- Provide shift-wise product quality data to production for immediate process correction.
- Own sampling procedure from wagon / truck sampling through laboratory preparation.
- Maintain calibration schedules, reference standards and retention samples; arrange umpire analysis on supplier disputes.
- Establish and monitor reagent consumption norms per sample and per tonne of DRI; investigate abnormal draws and non-laboratory issues.
- Publish daily and monthly quality MIS; flag sustained supplier quality deterioration to Purchase.
Pay: ₹60,000.00 - ₹80,000.00 per month
