Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Safety Officer to ensure a safe working environment by implementing health and safety policies, conducting inspections, ensuring statutory compliance, and promoting a strong safety culture within the manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate should have experience in manufacturing industries, preferably furniture or wood processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) policies and procedures.
- Conduct daily safety inspections across production, warehouse, and utility areas.
- Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure compliance with the Factories Act, Karnataka Factory Rules, and other applicable statutory regulations.
- Conduct safety induction training for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Organize periodic safety awareness programs, toolbox talks, and emergency drills.
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near-miss cases and prepare detailed reports.
- Monitor the usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance.
- Coordinate fire safety inspections, mock drills, and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
- Maintain statutory registers, safety records, permits, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
- Conduct risk assessments and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for manufacturing processes.
- Coordinate with HR, Production, Maintenance, and Contractors to ensure safe work practices.
- Ensure safe handling and storage of chemicals, paints, adhesives, and other hazardous materials used in furniture manufacturing.
- Support internal and external safety audits and ensure timely closure of observations.
- Monitor contractor safety compliance during maintenance and project activities.
- Promote continuous improvement in workplace safety through employee engagement and awareness initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Industrial Safety, Fire & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science is an added advantage.
- Certification in Industrial Safety or NEBOSH/IOSH is preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of industrial safety regulations and statutory compliance.
- Good understanding of risk assessment and hazard identification.
- Experience in accident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of fire safety systems and emergency response planning.
- Familiarity with PPE standards and safe work permit systems.
- Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
- Good documentation and report preparation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
Preferred Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience in furniture, wood processing, plywood, modular furniture, or allied manufacturing industries will be preferred.
- Experience handling contractor safety and statutory inspections.
